    Sega 8-bit & 16-bit Arcade Conversions

Evenin' All! Long, long time lurker first time poster here. Far too long browsing the dank fetid crevices of the internet have left me with a wealth of questions, the likes of which only the sage, refined folk that congragate here can answer ;-)

First off tho, I'm trying to put together a list of Sega developed arcade conversions for my present console of choice, the Megadrive (and to a lesser extent the Master System while I'm at it).

Now, I don't just mean the stuff that came from actual Sega arcade machines, but also the early Capcom, SNK etc stuff they handled as well (Strider, Final Fight CD, Art of Fighting etc).

Reason being? For me, a major part of the allure of the MD are those conversions that first opened our eyes to the possibilty of arcade 'perfect' gaming at home. And there ain't many finer than Sega's own. I also think it's great seeing their take on third party titles (like Art of Fighting) vs the efforts of perhaps lesser software houses like Takara on other formats.

Anyway, still awake? Rite now I've got:
    Title Original Developer

    Mercs Capcom
    Forgotten Worlds Capcom
    Ghouls n Ghosts Capcom
    Chiki Chiki Boys Capcom
    Final Fight CD Capcom
    Strider Capcom

Art of Fighting SNKWorld Heroes SNK(?)

    Dynamite Duke Seibu Kaihatsu
    Toki TAD Corp
    Truxton Toaplan
    Cyberball Atari
    DJ Boy Kaneko

    Outrun Sega
    Flicky Sega
    Super Hang On Sega
    Bonanza Bros Sega
    Golden Axe Sega
    Altered Beast Sega
    Columns Sega
    Crack Down Sega
    Gain Ground Sega
    Super Thunder Blade Sega
    Alien Storm Sega
    Wonderboy/Monsters Lair Sega
    Virtua Fighter 2 Sega
    Virtua Racing Sega
    Super Monaco GP Sega
    Wrestle War Sega

OK, come on then! What have I missed? Games like Shadow Dancer that are completely different to their arcade namesakes don't count!

Duly edited. Did Sega convert Truxton themselves?

Two more SNK games which were converted for the Mega CD (Might have been MD, not sure - can't remember..)

        Samurai Shodown
        Fatal Fury Special

My understanding is JVC handled Shodown & FF Special on Mega-CD. Perhaps someone can confirm? Remember, I'm only after titles that were reprogrammed / converted by Sega themselves..

I get the vague memory that Sega themselves didn't do the conversion of this on the MD. IIRC Probe did it.

Turbo Outrun was done by Tiertex in typically half-assed fashion.

As far as I can see (from a quick browse at MobyGames and HardcoreGaming 101) it's Sega all the way - theirs is the only copyright on the title screen and there seems to be some sort of swish witchcraft with the company logo going on on bootup:

Fatal Fury Special and Samurai Shodown on MCD are definitely JVC. Anyone know how Sega wound up doing Art of Fighting and World Heroes themselves?

That may be, but I'm still pretty sure it was not developed by a Sega team. The music is by Matt Furniss, his Megadrive music has a distinctive sound, and he did the music on some other Probe games too (MK I+II, Alien 3). I'm pretty sure the credits screen would confirm this.

Good catch Silanda! Just looked up the ending at vgmuseum.com (pop-up hell) and you are absolutely right, Probe it is. That one's coming off the list! Any other charlatans up there?

Eurocom did the Mega CD versions, and they were in my view pretty decent. Shame SS onthe Mega CD didn't have the sprite scaling which it could have handled perfeclty

I'm pretty sure it was In-House too. Though CRI did do the Mega CD port which was utter sh8t

You are the last person to not face death before dissing Megadrive G-Loc or Mega CD Afterburner III.

From here on in its martial law.

I'm not dissing G-Loc onthe Mega Drive it was a ok port and far better than the Mega Cd version. Which was pants and the music even worse , I could have done time for CRI .

This could and should have been the game to show off the Mega CD , instead we got a game that made next to no use of the Hardware and looked worse and run slower than the 4Mega Bit Mega Drive port of AB II.
Sorry to me it was pants , and a massive letdown And I say that as a Mega cd fan
