What kind of audio / video output do these babies have?

    Also : can I use a standard stepdown convertor (220/110 V)?

And : is it true, in your experience, that the CDZ units are much more prone to problems than the toploading "standard" model?
The AV port on Neo Geo CD provides a great RGB picture, it also sports dedicated composite, stereo & s-video connections. Dont quote me on it but the AV port may even provide stereo, but im sure youll want to connect it to an amp for full greatness anyway.

CDZ is reported to be less reliable, im not sure its a major problem..........the top loader is built like geoff capes tho and could win worlds strongest man even when claiming a state pension.

I don't get any sound output using AV onthe Neo CD. Great picture though and you can use Mark 1 Mega Drive scart Leads

You dont get any sound out of the AV? Must be broken, tho really everyone has to use the stereo outs its so worth it.

We should really list our fave soundtracks on it ahem.

        Real Bout Special
        Samurai Shodown 2
        Rally Chase
        Fatal Fury 3
Fatal Fury 2 (& Special i guess is the same)

Well I am using the Mega Drive Scart lead with the head phone jack , so maybe thats why . Anway I use the red and white leads also to hook it up to my 5.1 system .

My fac tracks on the Neo CD are Real Bout Special (I love the drums) , SS II, SS III , and Last Resort rules too .

            That's good to know!

Well, lots of information already - looks like NeoGeo gaming is far from dead eh? Well, thanks again all...

Yeah the Neo Geo CD has left and right audio outputs on phono sockets you you can connect up to your external speakers.

I make scart cables and tap the left and right audio so you can have true stereo through your TV however.

              Decent console.

How much would you pay for a NG CD with all 97 games if they were all copies? And are the cables etc compatible with a AES if I got one of them as well?

In theory, this could be the perfect console. I mean, it had all the great Neogeo titles, in arcade perfect format (at least pretty damn close) and for an affordable price. Even nowadays you could pick up a Last blade for about 5 quid opposed to the 50 quid I paid for my AES cartridge.

But man those load times totally destroy it for the big hitters..

Its true though, games with a lower meg count work like a charm, I think the first Samsho, AOF, Slug and FF games are pretty decent on CD. Also the others like Sengoku, Aero fighters and Baseball Stars. The remix sound is a blast too, I usually prefer the cartridge sounds but some AES remixes are wicked such as SamSho. It would be awesome is one could integrate a 24x drive or smt like it into this system :P

Well id say a Neo Geo CD would be worth around ?85 + without any extra games, so the question is how much is a bunch of discs worth on top of that? Depends on accessories as well sometimes the pads can run fairly expensive at ?20-?25 normally, even seen a broken one advertised at ?20 on eBay *FIX IT* lol, not for ?20 pounds.

If you buy a cable without any extra audio jack or phonos, then it should work just fine with an AES. However really the cables for the Neo Geo CD and Neo Geo AES should be different - for stereo cables the AES will need a stereo jack, and the CD has a pair of stereo phonos.

The cable without the jack or phonos just takes MONO audio from the A/V port at the back. Both systems have the same A/V port and both output mono sound on the same pin.. so with a mono cable you would be okay, I highly recommend stereo though.

I make all three cables if your interested, best quality ever

                      Interesting reading here:

Scroll down to the part "Man, the NEOGEO CD is too slow!"

It seems that its not possible to transplant a faster drive because of the speed the games have been programmed to load at? and the proprietary CD ROM drive controller!

yeah.. but but playing Neogeo games on a Neogeo console is just that, priceless..

The last week I only played with the AES, 100's of Sidekicks and Fatal Fury games against other people. The 360 is really gathering dust, as we solely multiplay on the Neogeo atm. Its the good old offline 2 player experience from the 16 bit days.

Oh dont get me wrong I'd love to play them all on AES but I just dont have the space or money for one now, although I may buy a CD machine in the future it's just I'd rather spend that money on a new Saturn & some more 360 stuff at the mo

So being able to play them on my X-box would be a nice easy stop gap till I do plump for the CD machine

Chip or softmod Soundwave mate, download of the Neogeo CD emulator and that's pretty much it. You run it, stick a NGCD game in the drive and off you go

saturn-gamer, I totally agree with you as you said AES but I know for a fact you wouldn't of had half the fun if you were playing the CD versions
