    Is the xbox retro?

Thinking about this, as a new xb owner, when does something become retro?

Is it when something is replaced? Will the moment the PS3 comes out make the PS2 "old school"? Or is it just age? The gamecube seems much older than it is, despite still being the current Ninty home console.

Or are these just "last gen" and in the uncool void between "next best thing" and the consoles we grew up with?

    lol, 'uncool void' definitely!

Surely retro has to be 10-20 years old doesn't it?

For me the last main retro console was the Saturn. The Playstation may get there one day but apart from the launch game (I loved Ridge Racer) and a few others it cannot hold a candle to the SNES or Saturn.

For me it really has to be carts too. Saturn is the only worthy exception IMHO - and the PC Engine CD system I guess (but I only collect the Hucards).

No doubt the later consoles will find their place in history but again IMHO the golden age was PC Engine to Saturn. Sony and 3D killed it. I used to look under my SNES at the expansion port and sigh 'if only'...

I just started playing Yoshi's Island this week after many years and had forgotten how totally incredible it is - just the first four levels alone are more beautifully, thoughtfully and playably fantastic than any modern stuff. The SNES had so much more to give...

Well the "next gen" consoles are now "current gen" so I guess XB must be "previous gen".

        Bless it.

No way, they still make major mainstream releases for xbox, until that stops its still hip.

There are only a little over 10 left to come out now.
The Dreamcast still gets new games to this day

Dreamcast is a law to itself.

Xbox has Call Of Duty & Need for Speed, no way is it retro despite any claims otherwise.

The problem with xbox is that it's an USA product which has been kept alive thanks to MS. Once it's done, it's done. So don't expect to find hidden gems like in japanese systems (PS1, DC) in the future.

It's not really a good retro system itself, but it has a lot of good emulators (when chipped) wich makes it "retro" another way. And xbox has some rare japanese games too: "Dai Senryaku VII". Is it good?

Dai Senryaku means Grand Strategy in Japanese and the game is like a very complex Advance Wars, based on real life military units from Israel, France, Japan, US, UK, Germany, China, and Russia. I haven't played it, so i don't know if it's good.

'Retro' is a bit of a worthless term anyway, really. None of the last-gen consoles are ever going to feel like the C64, SNES or PC Engine (etc), are they? Why talk about them as one? It's a dismissive term in any case, as I tend to view my older favourites as being just important now as they ever were, as I'm sure many of you chaps do! It almost makes playing older games sound like some childish hobby or 'guilty pleasure', as if elevating Pimp My Gangsta **** II to a higher plane. :P
