    Sega Tec Toy

Reading Insert Credit this morning, I came across this, which seems to be a Master System released by a Brazilian company with 120 games included.

I'd love to own one of these but does anyone have any more info like price and so on?

THere are a few Brazillians over at ASSEMblergames.com who know everything there is to know about Tec Toy. One of the guys (Nice guy) is also called Johnny

      The 120-in-1 is the latest of TecToy's SMS3 Collection units, following a 74-in-1, a 105-in-1 and a 112-in-1.

The bulk of the games are standard SMS releases, but there's also a bunch of Brazilian-developed educational titles unavailable anywhere else and a couple of otherwise JP-only games such as Galactic Protector & Woody Pop (both of which have been hacked to work with a standard control pad rather than the JP-only Paddle Controller).

Unlike the 3 previous models, the 120-in-1 doesn't have a working cart-slot, so you're stuck with the bult-in games (and a PAL-M RF output)

They can still be found NIB from Brazilian vendors - expect to pay between $80-$120 for a minty boxed one.

Thanks for the info guys. Yakumo - I'll have to check out that forum.

Anagrama - I take it the games run in 50Hz? Any idea of where to source one from?

Brazil's native standard is PAL-60 I believe so should be 60hz.

I did an article on the company for an old issue of Retro Gamer, can't remember the number. It's got quotes from the president of Tec Toy; maybe someone could scan it for you, it's interesting if you like the company.

As for the 120-in-1 systems, as far as I'm aware they won't work on UK TVs since, as anagrama pointed out, they have RF leads. So, a bit like the original Japanese Famicom with its lead - it won't work on any TV except a native one. Brazil has a funny TV system, PAL but at 60hz. I've never bothered to import one of the machines since I'd always believed they didn't work, a theory backed up the echoings of another RG writer, Spanner.

But hey, don't quote me on this. I got out of the journalism business, my word is as good as the next civilian's.

It uses PAL-M, which I think is very similar to PAL-60 but not quite.

Is it only the 120-in-1 versions that come with an RF lead as I'm sure I've seen the 105-in-1 versions with composite output

Yeah, I think it's basically identical in looks but the colour subcarrier is in a different place.

Couldn't swear by it, but I'm pretty sure they're all RF-only.

I remember when Craig at GBAX used to sell them, now it looks like they only sell GP2X's but he never mentioned having any trouble with using the Master System 3's over here in his review, found a link to the old site http://www.gbax.com/brazilsega.html
