    Gameboy Color

Im tempted, not for the first time to start collecting for the Gbc. What id like to know is are there any nice limited edition Gbc out there? Whats the screen like in comparison to the original Gba? And any game recomendations?
I like arcadey stuff mostly but anything worth playing id like to hear about, also jpn only games too.
My to buy list so far-
    Metal gear solid.
Resident evil gaiden (i know its crap).
    Cotton.
    Thanks for helping.

R-Type DX, Pokemon Silver/Gold and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe are must-haves.

the standout games for the gameboy color in my opinion are:

          zelda DX
warioland 3 (Like mario crossed with super metroid)
          warioland 2
          kirbys dreamland 2
          metal gear
          Mario golf
          dragon warrior 3
          dragon quest monsters 2

yeah man, dragon warrior 1 and 2 reprise, dragon warrior monsters 1 and 2 and dragon warrior 3 are all english and pal.

dragon warrior 3 is excellent too. the graphics are splendid and it has added content over the nes and super famicom versions.

Here's a nice site, that lists all the GBC variants:

I really like the clear version (not clear purple) and the Jasco limited first edition, though don't ask where you can get ahold of them, cause I've no idea.

As you've mentioned that you like arcady stuff, I'll spare you the obvious RPG games like Dragon Warrior and Lufia (although you might want to at least take a look at Stranded Kids, a nifty survival RPG) and go straight at the more action-orientated titles.

Sadly, there aren't that many.. the GBC had a relatively short lifespan (in comparison to the original GB) and it's software lineup consists mainly out of japanese adventure/RPG stuff, crappy licensed games and lazy NES ports (Crystalis, Blaster Master).

What I would recommened checking out, are the following titles:
-Space Marauder (updated version of Burai Fighter Deluxe)
-Joust & Defender (wonderful conversion of the two arcade classics)
-Balloon Fight GB (colorized version of Balloon Kid, only released in japan)
-Qix Adventure (looks interesting, haven't tried it)
-Elevator Action EX (looks like the colorized GB version, haven't played it)

You could also try the three Zelda titles (Link's Awakening DX is the best imo) or Wario Land 2 and 3 (although 3 is even more like puzzler than the 2nd one and didn't appeal to me that much).

So there was no GBC Castlevanias or Contras bar the ones on Konami GB Collection?
                  1941 the only vertical shmup?
                  Thanks so far.

The two exclusive Zelda games on the GBC oracle of ages/seasons (both by Capcom) are pretty good and well worth a pick up, mario golf is also a pretty in depth golf game if you like that sort of thing.

but of the top of my head i cant remember there being that many quality release for the GBC

there were castlevanias. I have 1 of them. its for gb bw though and to my knowledge, none of them were that great anyway.
as for contra, not sure which one appeared on the konami collection but i believe there was port of the snes contra for the system.

vertical scrolling (and horizontal for that matter) shooters are super thin on the ground and I can't think of any others.
Rtype and parodius are decent enough.

Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land is the second best Gameboy game ever (tetris being the first).

GB Castlevania's are indeed pretty horrible and should be avoided at all costs.

Konami did make Operation C for GB, which is mix between first two NES Contras. It was later re-released as a part of Konami GB Collection Vol. 1. This version has colours.

                            my fave gameboy/gbc games:

                            harvest moon 1 +2
                            Pokemon yellow and crystal
                            mario bros dx.
                            rainbow islands
                            donkey kong land
                            tetris
                            metroid 2
                            mario land 1,2,3
                            wario land 2
zelda links awakening, oracle of seasons, oracle of ages
kirbys dreamland 1 (2 is said to be good too)

oh and I highly reccomend you don't buy resident evil gaiden, it's very poor. (coming from a massive fan of the series)
unless you have a Resident evil collection or something, I wouldn't waste your money on it.

Yeah, it's excellent, but isn't a Game Boy Color game.

Seeing as those konami collections have been mentioned, I'd especially recommened the Konami GB Collection Vol. 3 with it's nifty Goemon game.
It's worthy to note that the numbering of the japanese versions is different and that they aren't (in contrary to the PAL versions) for GBC.

Pokemon Pinball and Puzzle League (Panel De Pon version with Pokemons) might also be worth considering.
