Interestingly it seems a lot of prices are much cheaper in the U.K than here in Japan. I'm mainly talking of Saturn titles I've noticed such as the RAM boxsets etc. they seem to be much cheaper than I ever remember selling for.
The reasons are fairly obvious and have been stated such as compilation release e.g. Metal Slug, Street Fighter Zero anthologies etc. Summer lulls and what have you. But conversely certain items do seem to have shot up in value. I believe I saw the PAL Night Boxset sell recently (could have been NickPavey from here, but I could be wrong!) on EBaY for over £70!? Perhaps because of the suggestion of a new Nights title.
Equally I've noticed the PAL Rez rocket over 40 bones - so like always it still appears to be up and down.

I rember back in about 2003 - 2004 when prices and intrest were really silly.

I had so much stuff, Ico and Japanese Saturn stuff was talked about constantly and prices were through the roof. It was at that point I decided to bow out of collecting and buying and just sold, and threw away, most of my collection.

It was supprising how little intrest my stuff was attracting such as my Neo Geo AES, Saturn and Dreamcast so I'm glad I sold it when I did. I think the only collectables I have left is Sonic Anniversary pack, MGS Box, Guild Wars Box and a few games here and there.

Honestly, collecting for the sake of amounting a pile of games is just not worth it.

            Eh?

and what does ICO have to do with anything? An example of a reprint? The US release was always worth peanuts of course.

I don't think too many people here buy older games for that reason.

Around that time frame Ico was one of the most recent releases that was commanding prices of ?50+ in it's UK Limited Edition guise.

Rhetorical question. I just don't really consider it retro with it still available new or part of the VC discussion. I know the reprint has halved the value of the UK LE version. Not that I made much money from selling ICO twice here and at rllmuk back in 04 and 05

I think a lot of people tried to cash in when they saw saturn/snes games for insane amounts on ebay simply because either the game was released to one region and was good, or was not amazing and released in all regions but in very limited amounts. But I agree with what most say, the value of your collection is how much you value it - I sold most of my "rare" games because I no longer had systems to run it, however the games I feel have the most worth to me might not be worth a lot at all.
