After some NTSC-J PSX gems

I'm in the mood for some Japanese Playstation games. I'm after largely unknown stuff like shmups and 2D fighters (basically anything 'arcadey'. No 100 hour RPGs, although I will consider decent action/adventure games) that aren't too expensive (or rock hard!). Just a couple of games to tide me over the next couple of weeks.

For a start, how is Donpachi? I'm a big shmup fan and loved DoDonpachi so I presume this is more or less the same?

Donpachi is less frantic than it's DDP and a better game for it IMHO.

Night Raid is another lesser known but quality shooter.

Got a quick question though. I can only afford one at the minute so which first, Gunners Heaven or Panzer Bandit? Which will last the longest in single player?

Neither. Both are just imitations of the real thing - Gunstar and Guardian Heroes.

If you must buy one of them, then go for Gunner's Heaven as it's cheap (or at least it used to be).

I like DDP more, but both of top notch.

The Adventure of Little Ralph (forget the jap title) is a wicked platformer but quite pricey.

If you like 2d, go for the obvious but expensive adventure of little Ralph.

Agreed with the above two posts. Bought this on the PSN after stupidly having sold mine way back for pittance and it's still got the charm and gameplay many games today lack.

Whats the one where your an office worker who gets really angry with his life starts smashing up the office then you turn into some angry lizzard man and have to fight cops etc. Its total Japanese arse but worth a look for ****s & giggles.

Are you talking about Little Ralph? Where abouts is it on the PSN? I bought Gunners Heaven and Cotton this morning and love them both but want Ralph without spending a fortune!

I Bought Little Ralph for about 45 Pounds, and it was mint with spine too. I'm sure if you check around, set a limit, you could get it for around that, plus, if you don't want to keep it, sell it on, get your money back.

I'd keep it mind, its one game i could fire up right now! (sold mine )

I think Ralph came out the same time as Cotton. Not sure where it is, as both are now on my download list so I can't see them in the store.

Shame the music on Cotton is the original arcade music, as the PCE tracks were so much better.
