For whatever reason I just can't get into Super Mario Kart. Every time I've played it Ive soon got bored and since I wasn't having fun, I turned it off.

Perhaps one day I'll have my epiphany.

Everyone to their own. I don't 'get' Halo and constantly get abuse for it.

Only stroppy people don't like SMK.

All the Mario Kart games are a lot different. It's not like the Ridge Racer series, where all the games have a consistent design.

The fact that SMK has always( even recently ) .. been voted, not only the best in the series, but also one of the best games ever, proves that it is the most liked in the series.

Super Mario Kart: Tight tracks, frenetic racing, and has a real Karting vibe and feel.

Mario Kart 64: Long tracks, full of things to see, but feels and plays like a straight racer, rather than a Karting experience.

Mario Kart DD: Even more over-the-rop styling, and takes things even further away from the original design.

Mario Kart Super Circuit: A lot like the snes version, but doesn't feel as good, and ends-up being a weaker experience.

Mario Kart DS: When it comes to looks and design, it's better han MK64 and MKDD, but it's still full of over-the-top stylings, and doesn't feel anyway like a Karting game should. It's just a nice racer, with Mario characters.

So, if you like Karting, and want a well-made videogame version, then SMK is the one to go for. If you like straight racing, with long tracks, and lots of things to see and do, then go for MK64, MKDD, or MKDS.

Super Mario Kart on the SNES is definitely the best of this fantastic series !

Disagree with the second part of that sentence totally, I must say.

MKSC is so underrated it's laughable. It actually succeeds where MK64 fails miserably in attempting to combine the classic elements of SMK with the newer and more modern elements of the MK series.

It also avoids the problems that have plagued every other MK game post-Super i.e. woefully-balanced power-ups, cheap shortcuts, potential for cheap "snaking" tactics, etc., and offers a karting game where driving skill ALWAYS wins out in the end - the true ethos of SMK, surely?

For me, MKSC is at least equal to (maybe even better than) MKDS, and it owns MK64 & MKDD every day of the week.

Snaking + Blue shell both just ruin Mario kart for me whenever I play and these end up happening.

I really like MKSC. It's very close to the original look and design, but I don't like the look or movement of the Karts that much.

I can't say many bad things about it. The original is better though. SMK has more enjoyable tracks, the Karts feel better, and it simply has more finesse than MKSC.

MKSC is my second favourite in the series. It's definitely a must-have for SMK fans. I feel like having a go on it now.

So agree with you there. It's absolutely top-rate entertainment, and as I've recently been reminded of after playing the game for the first time in years, very addictive in one player mode. (Unfortunately, it's the only Mario Kart game I haven't played multiplayer.)

What are general opinions about the Arcade GP games, by the way?

I was never been able to 'get' SMK or MK64 at all either tbh, dispite my best efforts.

Yet I really loved MKDD, which is the one everyone seems to hate!

I don't think many gamers 'hate' any of the MarioKart games, it's just that a lot of people love the things that make SMK so special, and have found the different styling of subsequent Karting titles to not be as enjoyable.

The big difference, and the one that I and probably most fans of SMK dislike about the other versions, is the change from the Karting style, to the more straight racer( long wide tracks etc.. )

There isn't anything really bad about all the games in the series. It's just that SMK feels and plays like Karting should, and also the fact that it's undoubtedly the most popular title in the series.

I'm not putting people down for liking MK64 MKDD, just pointing-out the reasons why I and many others like the orignal SMK the most.
