Shown it on here before, but i'm rather pleased with my philips 21PT5409, only downside is the lack of s-video and only 1 rgb scart. but it does ntsc composite so i can get my retro on in glorious not-quite-rgb-o-vision, which i actually quite like, it gives an even more retro feel!
Must clean the saturn....

To the chap who recommends monitors without sound to people, LOL,
Originally posted by gunrock View PostNo, that would be, they like the Garrard 401 turntables of RGB monitors. Eveybody and their mum has or knows about Technics SL1200's.
Anyway, back OT, the CM8833 was quite good, but I actually love the Microvitec 1438 and 1440. They are not only excellent RGB monitors, but they also do 640x480 VGA. Playing a Dreamcast on a VGA adapter on one of those is fantastic. Only downside (for gaming) is that they have no speakers built in.
Garrard 401's have nothing to do with the price of fish here, no one cares. The analogy would clearly fail.

It's simple. Buy a Sony CRT 4:3 screen. I've had 21" 25", also a 14", and Sony always made the best crt's by far.
My Brother has a modern Sony flat 21" 4:3 CRT, which was made a few years ago, and it's amazing for the Dreamcast, Snes etc.... Much better than my LCD, or widescreen crt.
In the 90s, every serious gamer I knew, always had a Sony CRT. It was an accepted fact that Sony Trinitron tv's, were in a class of their own.
I've had and used other brands, but never been impressed with them.

I've got a Loewe Nemos 32, think it's pretty **** for 2D games.
Not a fan of the flatter Trinitron or Wega CRT's either, older curved tubes are much better for games. Picked up a new old-stock Sony recently (early 90's) and it's pretty nice, no geometry adjustment though which is kinda rubbish.
CM8833 is still the best quality 2D gaming screen I have though.

Hardly. My analogy works nicely thank you. Both are over 20 years old. Both are design classics. Both are/were industry standards for there quality. Both are well known for good reason (CM8833's were used widely up and down the country in places of education). Only the hardcore RGB fan need apply as opposed to getting a cheap Korean LCD television as it seems to be so popular to do so now.

Anyway, I had a CM8833 MkII and whilst it's image quality was good (plus speaker were a bonus), it was not as sharp as my Taxan 770 nor my Microvitec 1438.
Peace be with you, sunshine.

But i've heard of the Technics 1200's and i'm expert in neither.
I'd say you are both saying the same thing, just gunrock's -analogy- clearly fits what you are both trying to say.Last edited by DCharlie; 29-01-2008, 04:02.
