[QUOTE=samanosuke;1240984]For me it's SF2: CE all the way. I felt that the new moves in Turbo/HF unbalanced the gameplay even more by giving powerful characters such as Ryu/Ken and Chun-Li extra moves while adding nothing to wanky characters such as Zangief and E-Honda.

    No.
EHonda: Got splash move thing and could move when 100 hand slapping
Zangief: super fast and faster lariats
    Dhalsim: Teleport
Guile: Rock hard so nothing (may be wrong...maybe his heavy flash kick was now one hit?)
    Blanka: Vertical spin, super fast

Oh yeah, I forgot about E-Honda's vertical move, as useless as it is, and he could move while doing the 100-hand slap since CE. Okay, perhaps I meant that what new moves there were for the crappy characters were not good enough.

Hyper: SFII for me. Felt like the definitive vers of SFII. Closely followed by SFIII: Third strike and Zero 3.

I couldn't play CE nowadays, it wasn't much of an upgrade to World Warrior, apart from they took all the fun bugs out. In fact it'd be the only SF2 I just wouldn't play as theres far better ones. I even prefer WW more.

The thing I hate about SF3 3rd strike is the character design. It's horrendously bad. The music and the announcer really irritate me as well. Why did the music go so far downhill after SSF2?

It's a shame the best of the SNK fighters don't seem to get anything like the attention the SF games do.

I think thats the first time I've heard someone saying they dont like 3rd strike's music.

Anyway I really like streetfighter and have owned most of them but to be honest Im quite dirt and have not really practiced much or had many people to play with.- Went online and got my ass kicked etc.

I think I like cap vs snk 2 the best out of the versus series and I got into this one a bit with combo's etc.

But overall I "think" I like alpha 3. Felt like I was choosing straws on that verdict though.

There are 2 SF games that are for me the best, and make all other obsolete.

Saturn Street Fighter Zero 3. The best 2d fighter i've played (and I own an AES, DC...). Thanks to the saturn controller, thanks to it being the superior version... thanks to it actually kicking even the DC version in the nuts. That ramcart box and the fact not even many know of this games existence also makes it kind of special. This game is sick, the arcade crouch cancels worked (I racked up 50 hit combo's with Ryu and Cody)... everything from the coin op worked. And then it had all the PSX/DC extras and even more! The only, ONLY thing that sucked was the muffled announcer.

Street fighter 3 third strike. Not far behind SFZ3 saturn. Its a magical game, it sadly kind of sucked on the dreamcast. But the Xbox version is pretty much Arcade perfect. Now that I think of it... i haven't tried that new Hori with it on 360 yet.

Well and a third which is SF2 Hyper Fighting for nostalgia reasons. Played it a lot in the Arcade as a kid. Always thought it was much better than SSF2 and SSF2T. The XBLA port kind of sucks (PSX SF Collection 2 port) but the one on Saturn Capcom Generations 5 is the best port of this game I've ever played. Better than XBLA, better than PSX, better than Ps2 Capcom collection.

even if you despise all 4 of the "newcomers" thats no reason to hate on ssf2x, the game is just the pinnacle tbh.

lol in ssf2x the characters are way more balanced, the super moves add new dementions, and the special normal moves also add another layer........not to mention being able to juggle for the first time in the series........oh and loads more combo options etc(way more depth).

cps2 music, all sorts of colours, akuma first appearance.....i leave it there lol.

i can understand people saying sf2t as it was many people first sf2 experience and its all they knew, but to use a reason like "i hate those 2 characters" lol.

just play as if deejay and t.hawk are not there, you dont have to pick them.

                      ....................................

and as for alpha.........alpha 3 is technically by far the best in the series, and was massive in japan(look when daigo won the world championship at 17)........people went mad for it(hardly the "too ambitious" game i have heard mentioned).

imho the people that hate on alpha 3 are the ones who:

a, cant be arsed to learn v-ism properly and get banged up by v-ism players in the arcades

b, dont have the technical skill to learn and use v-ism properly

if your gonna play alpha 3 while the saturn version is nice, it still does slowdown in certain v-ism senarios(zangief etc) and the pad is the only realistic option. go for the ps2 as it has dipswitch settings and is pretty much flawless port.....and you can use the vastly superior sticks available to ps2 players.

also by that comment its like saying capcom vs snk 2 doesnt work for the same reason(even more groove/ism options in fact)

                      lol.

                          ...cps2 music...
Come on matey, it's all a matter of opinion. I for one much preferred the music score from the CPS-1 Street Fighters. Better hardware doesn't mean better music - if that were the case then why would C64 SID music be so popular today?

And if you can just ignore the new characters - like you say - then shouldn't Capcom vs SNK 2 be the best Street Fighter? I mean, you could just ignore all the new characters and grooves, after all. And what of the SSMs? Some, myself included, think that SF2 was so perfect that it never needed any fixing in the first place.

It's not that I don't like the newer game-play elements in the later SFs - hell, I'm a huge SNK fan so depth never scares me - I just like the original SFs the best. It's like Mario Kart on the SNES... we all know that the N64, NGC and DS all have improved versions with better graphics and added extras but come on - it's the SNES version that stands the test of time best, probably because it was so perfect in the first place that improving on it is nigh-on impossible.

yeah your right, muffled lower quality soundtracks are better(to be fair guiles music is better in the cps1 iteration), but zangief, dhalsim, sagat, boxer etc etc all better in cps2(not just clearer, but better compositions)

what i am saying is that a guy not liking ssf2x for the sake of 2 characters is weak. the game is FAR more... than just the same old with 4 new characters, ssf2x is a complete upgrade to sf2. in every sense.

and wtf capcom v snk 2 best sf....? we are talking about 4 characters new in ssf2x not half the(massive) cast in cvs2(plus it has a completely different feel/mechanic to it) so where that comment came from i just dont know.

you cant compare mario kart too, probably a lot of the dev team were different on the later versions of that game, where as(mostly) the same team worked on all versions of sf2-ssf2x) and to say sf2 was perfect to begin with is a joke man seriously......i mean you do realise in World Warrior there were no reversals......... fireball trap = death, pokes in corner on wakeup etc = death. so yeah i see what you mean about not needing to improve on that, or the fact that 4 boss characters were unplayable, and that you couldnt choose the same char in versus, and colour costomus were the same(ie one colour)........i wont go on LMAO.

nostalgia is one thing but to make out that cps2 versions are inferior is silly...they are not, quite the contrary.......they are sf2 perfected as best capcom could achieve.

if sf2 the cps1 versions are really the best then why at evo and super battle opera etc, do they use either hyper sf2, or ssf2x?

                            i rest my case.

I have to say I prefer the older versions soundtrack as well. Each to their own.

well to be fair that really is down to taste, but gameplay wise its leagues ahead.
