In search of some info on the Wondermega...

    Hey people.

I'm hoping to get a Wondermega and I have some questions that I thought someone here might be able to answer.

Firstly, do they knock out an RGB signal? Also, I'll be wanting to play some English Mega-CD games so is it possible to change the region of games? I've heard that it is possible but is it fairly easy to do? I don't want to be hex editing or anything.

Are there many PAL/US carts with region lock-out or should I be okay playing English carts on the machine?

Finally, how much should I expect to pay for an un-boxed M2 model? VGI have one for ?190 but that seems too pricey for me. Would it be easier/more economical to get a Multi-Mega and a 60hz conversion?

Thanking you kind souls in advance.

Wondermega doesn't have RGB output as standard to a socket or anything but since it has a Sony video encoder inside which does output RGB its possible to tap the signals internally and route them to a connector.

You can change the region of your games with a program called ConvSCD which you can download at zophar.net. You need to make an ISO (a full CD image) of your game, and then run it through the ConvSCD program, choose the region of your choice and burn it.

Theres quite a lot of later cartridges which have lockouts.. not sure how many.

I'm not sure about the price for a Wondermega.., you'll likely get one cheaper by keeping an eye out on eBay (particuarly eBay.com). It would be a lot cheaper to get a modded Megadrive and Mega CD (I know because I have one for sale) and then you can play everything.

Yeah, I know a regular MD/MCD would be much cheaper but I can't be doing with two PSUs and audio mixer leads. It's all a bit too messy for me.

BTW, unlucky about the footy earlier. Typical Arsenal, diving about the place and getting players sent off. They certainly weren't worthy of the win IMO.

190 pounds for a ****ty mark II and it's unboxed ! They've got to be mad ! The Mark II Wondermega is ugly plus you need to use the inferred pads don't you?

You should be able to get the far far far sexier looking model 1 for about 200 pounds boxed if you are lucky.

I have a Victor Wondermega RG-M1 and it is a lovely bit of kit. The s-video output is actually very nice, but obvoiusly not as nice as rgb. I may be selling soon as i recently picked up a pioneer laseractive....keep an eye on the trading forums

I quite prefer the size of the M2. You don't have to use the infra-red pads either; the unit has two regular sockets round the back.

I'm not after a boxed version anyway. I gave up the collecting business when my AES collection fell through the floor in value.

You shouldn't collect for value anyway. I collect for the satisfaction of it.

R1's are costly. A boxed complete Victor M1 cost me well over 50,000 Yen last month.

I never have collected for value - it has always been about playing the games for me. But I was going through some financial hardship which forced me to sell my AES collection and it just made me a little bitter as when you splash ?300+ on a game you do kind of hope that you can get most of your money back when you sell it on. I mean, is any game worth ?300? Many people argue that RSG isn't worth just ?100 and yet it's one of the finest games ever crafted.

I don't want a boxed Wondermega as I don't intend on selling it on so why pay the extra for a boxed version?

Ah, I see what you mean. Yeah, the AES market did drop quite alot.

Ah, yeah, it gets even sillier when you add a 32x into the mix!

I was toying with the idea of a splitter cable to go to Megadrive and 1/2 addons, but I think it would require a power supply outputting more amps than the original 1.2

I have one that outputs 12v @ 2A, I wonder if that would be enough to power Megadrive/Mega CD/32x ?

Haha. I was sat there watching the match on telly.. you betcha! Can see Turf Moor from my window I don't follow Burnley but Burnley VS Arsenal.. well it was a must-watch. I thought it was a pretty good game actually, Burnley surprised me but I knew we were going to get thrashed.

Didn't agree with that sending off!

The Sega version comes up quite regular on Yahoo auctions and normally a decent condition unboxed one goes for under a hundred pounds with a few games. The only problem is that alot of these sellers don't want to ship outside of Japan.
