Best shooters around. BG is my fav years later. I remember first time I played it only a few years ago (Lee from VGI reccomended it to me). I played it for 30mins and it looked horrificly old, put it up to sell and went back that night and cancelled selling it heh Its the only game I can one credit right to the end (and still die!).

Aye, Lee's a big fan of Garegga alright He's the one who's turned me onto Raizing (with Souky initially, then Garegga). I'd barely looked at a console shooter before then.

Respect for 1 crediting Garegga (to where you get to). Can't say I'm anywhere near that good but I always enjoy a good blast.

It's an interesting point for me that, although being crap at shooters (I don't think I've 1cc'd any shooter on the normal level) that I still come back to them time and time again!
Any other genre that punishes me so much for being **** would have gone in the bin a long time ago.I'm a maschocist but I love it.

            .
Lee the one that talked me into getting Souky, even said I could have a lend of the game for a week , becasue he knew I would buy it - at the time I was unsure as they was next to no coverage of the game (only in Saturn power) . I played it for 20 mins and was onthe phone to say there's no way on earth I'm sending the copy back, and that I'm a RAIZING fan for life

But the real thanks need to go to goldsmith , he's the one that got Lee into Souky and Garegga

Would Layer Section be considered a 2d shooter? I thought it was preety good from what i played. Didn't work on my old saturn properly though... :/

Yea Lee talked me into Souky as well hehe. I just phoned up and said what are good and next day I had about £400 with shooters on my doorstep (I bought a stack of em as sent a load of xbox and older games in Id never use to them as a new customer back then as tradin again as went retro mad). Id never heard of any of em even Don Pachi. Only one I knew about was RS as Id had that for ages. I adore BG so much that I seriously would like a cab with it one day and the others by them its just an utter work of art. Ive still got some to this day I aint played much from him like Siloutte mirage and Shienru as I switch saturn on and bam Don Pachi and BG are what I play

Lee is a top bloke, cant get better for a retro retailer and he wont sell you rubbish for the sake of it really knows his stuff.

Yea Layer selections not bad Ive got that as well thats a 2d shooter.

LayerSection...Great game i know. But i got it mixed up with Soukyugurentai, that was the game that refused to work properly on my saturn.

Dodgy text with an import adapter?

You guys really need a supergun/cab for Batrider (second best Raizing after Garegga imo), Bakraid and Dimahoo.

Hehe I've been sneakily playing Layer Section (as Rayforce) at work with via my well hidden mame folder. I love the art in it, the awesome use of scaling inbetween & during the levels gives it an atmosphere that so many games just ain't got. More games need scaling!! The level with the tanks racing along the roads beside you as you fly up and down is loooovely! a design classic... sniff!

Layer Section has to be the shooter I've been playing most on the Saturn I bought tail end of last year. It has a great combination of action with a wee bit extra thought as you try to prioritize between targets below you that take extra hits on the upper plane and whats right in front of you.
There must be something wrong with my Saturn though as there are a lot of transparencies in the game...
Garegga and Souky are great as well. And Thunderforce 3 to 5 are great horizontal shooters.
