SNES games that are different in PAL format compared to NTSC ones !

    Hey,

Just wondered if anyone can help me with this, I'm wanting to know which SNES games that when releasd in PAL format were slightly different to he US / JAP versions for no good reason !?

    For instance,
Super Street Fighter 2 - In the US one hen you played 2 player, When the fight was won the speech would say like "Ken wins" or "Sagat wins" but in the pal version it just says "you win" !!!

Fatal Fury Special - I have not got the pal one to prove this but I was told that the Pal version only had some of the characters so lots were removed!

    -------

Then of course there is Probotector / Contra with the change from Men to Robots but thats not really the kind of thing I mean, I mean things tha have changed that really should not be and most people would never notice !

Please let me know what you think peeps.

    Cheers

P.S. I am really interested to know if certain SNES games were ever released in UK PAL format and not just European PAL or Australian PAL ? Like these - Final Fight 2, Final Fight 3, Fatal Fury 1, 2, Special, Aliens vs Predator, Lufia, and other hard to get pal games.

    Please help !

obviously there's bound to be a lot of changes due to nintendo of america's insane censorship policies. i believe they took all the crosses out of games for religious reasons, even if they weren't crucifixes, so the red cross sign was removed from hospitals in earthbound. they ought to have replaced the pilot of their brainships methinks. not too hot on pal versions though, but i'm guessing a lot will have carried over from the yankees butchering jobs.

Kinda a reverse of what you're asking but...

The Japanese version of Turtles tournament fighters you can select a second colour for your character (the 2player colour in the US/PAL versions), also on i think it is Rat King's stage you can break the side of the stage and it opens up into an extension of the stage.

I'm told the sfc version was the last one of the three regions to be released though so maybe that's why things were added.

iirc the uk/us versions of dead dance (tuff e nuff) added a cheat to be able to use additional characters as well.

Rather famously the Japanese version of Super Tennis featured your character spouting expletives when you lost (****, I think? Or was it feck?..)

Changed to a less offensive 'Rats' for the UK one.

Was that for the US or pal release? I thought the only Ranma game to get a pal release was just called ranma 1/2 ?

That ranma 1/2 game that was released over here had loads of characters renamed (for no reason...) as well.

                Shampoo = Bamboo
                Ukyo = Frederick

Maybe some others i can't remember.

In the beginning in Super Castlevania IV they took away the cross too. Also, the changed the red blood to green and I think they took the driping blood away on the logo as well.

Some it seems some (even pal) versions of SNES games had more things included than others, Not just the Pal versions that were always the poorest ? (Not talking about 50/60hz issue)

It would be nice to know the best versions of all of the good SNES / SFC games so people could get the best ones for their collections, I know I'd like to know!

This is also the case with the bosses in street fighter 2 but not just on the SNES.

It's time for the return of a SNES collector, with plenty of knowledge.

There are tons of SNES games butchered for their USA/PAL release.

                        Twinbee Rainbow Bell,
Not wildly know, but the game was hacked apart for the PAL release. In the Japanese version players had to explore the world map and the exit you choose from each level affected where you went. In the PAL version this was all removed and you had to do all the levels in a preset order.

                        Assault Suit Valken (Cybernator)
The cuts to this are well documented, but they include the removal of a cutscene and the character face art.

                        Fatal Fury 2 Special
PAL version was on a smaller cut and as a result a couple of characters got axed.

Super Castlvania IV & Vampire Kiss were both censored slightly. Final Fantasy IV (2) & Final Fantasy VI (3) also had minor changes.

There were lots of games that had changes in one form or another.

What was changed in Super Castlevania IV? I'm guessing it was crosses again?

The PAL version of Assault Suits Valken had all the story text taken out too now you mention it.

It had dialogue. Its just certain scenes and gameplay sequences were removed, like shooting the president(?) while your in the mech. Love that game, even the pal version Cybernator. Shame the PS2 port was a huge amount of arse.

What, Castlevania IV had dialogue? Or do you mean ASV? Coz I know about that, I have the JPN version.
