I want a good TV for Retro Gaming, with these specs

OK, I might want to buy a new TV soon, but the specifications I want may be hard to find. Here is a list of what I want along with reasons:
    • CRT (reason: to play SNES, MegaDrive, PS1, Saturn, and Dreamcast lightgun games, as they are all CRT-only)
    • NTSC-U, NTSC-J, and PAL-I compatible through composite video AT THE VERY LEAST (Reason: For playing my imported consoles)
    • Has stereo composite ports (the TV itself doesn't have to be stereo, as long as it has three RCA sockets, not two) and RGB- ,S-Video-, and Composite-SCART, and UHF RF (compatible w/o adaptors for most cables I have. Note it doesn't need a separate S-Video port, just S-Video SCART)
    • Be around 14" to 18" (it has to fit in a small hole, the exact dimensions of the hole are 502x502x549 (WxHxD) in mm)
    • Supports 576i and 480i (for the un-savvy, 576i is the ordinary PAL TV standard's resolution and refresh rate and 480i is PAL60)
    • If 16:9, be able to have different modes for different inputs
    • (optional) Component (YPbPr) ports, for running my Wii in top quality
    • (optional) 480p compatible, again for Wii purposes

I will be very happy if anyone finds a TV with all of these, as it will make my gaming experience much better [/list]

You might be hard pushed to get anything under 21" that includes s-video and all the required features, without importing theres deffo no UK 4:3 CRT's with component inputs, best bet is probably a 21" trinitron.

I think those are too big, you can see the dimensions it has to fit in in my OP. I'll have a look at its specs.

EDIT: Hmm, QuickReply didn't want to work. It said the forum is not accepting posts or something.

You might find a 15, 17 or 19 trinitron with your main requirements but pretty much only that brand will you find what you need.

Yup I'll second that. The Sony's have the best all-round NTSC support, most have S-video, RCA inputs, headphone output, and the nature of the Trinitron tube lends itself well to retro gaming.
You can get them (second-hand) in slightly non-standard sizes as well. For instance, I have an old 20 inch Sony widescreen (circa 1999) KV-20WS1U which has all the aforementioned, and a built-in 20W subwoofer in the back to boot.
There was a 16 inch KV-16WS1U version as well (minus the sub I think). Only complaint is that the 4:3 mode looks a bit small on it, so a 4:3 Sony set would be your best overall solution.

Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know where I can get a 28" CRT that supports 480p and has SCART and Component (not composite) inputs?
I have nothing that needs higher than EDTV but I could do with a prog-scan TV.
It seems impossible to buy CRTs from anywhere now.
I have a preference for Panasonic and a dislike of Sony TVs.
            Anyone?

I have one of these that will be with me forever. Really the best portable TV around.

Just get some cables made for all your consoles that can output L+R audio to external speakers.

Sorry, must also be 4:3 ratio.

Can't I get a cable from the TV's headphones socket to an EXT amp?

It's best to run the stereo audio direct from the console to the amplifier. The TV's headphone socket sometimes has an audible hiss and is not a line level output (basically meaning it may distort if connected to an amplifier).

I'm thinking of getting a 21" Sony Trinitron for retro gaming, specifically shooters. Can anyone tell me/confirm whether they're okay to rotate for playing shooters in tate mode?

Only Sony TV I ever bought had a horizontal line of pixels about 1/3 of the way up the screen. The dealer (a real long time TV dealer) told me they all had that (?)...drove me mad on things like SMW.

Anyway. took it back, had a Toshiba, Sharp and then finally a Panasonic. This was all one deal and one very accommodating dealer - ended up taking the SFC and the then brand new Jap SFII into the shop to make a final decision.

Bought the guy a bottle of whiskey as a thank you. And the Panasonic is still our main TV 17 years later!
