SNES Alien vs Predator US NTSC vs PAL ?

After hearing people say this was a good scrolling fighter I decided to get a copy.
However, Seeing that pal versions sell for very silly prices I just got a US cart.

I have to say that the game is pretty poor and nowhere near as good as I was expecting, Especially as it sells for such a price!

I have been looking through some old superplay mags and see that they gave it a really low score, something in the 20% region !
I would never have bought it if I had seend this review first D'oh !

I also read in superplay that the developers were going to remake and really improve the game for the European release and wondered if they actually did and if the game is any different or better? If it is then it would go some way to explaining the silly prices pal ones sell for.

Just got this info below from wiki which maybe suggests that I have the improved version and it was the JAP version that superplay reviewed?
In that case I dread to think how bad the JAP one is as the US one is pretty bad!

The Japanese version of the game is titled Aliens vs. Predator rather than Alien vs. Predator, and features an orange-colored Predator who moves slowly, but is able to run by tapping left/right twice, whereas in the western release the character is light brown and moves relatively fast, though he is not able to run. The laser bar required to fully charge in order to shoot lasers is also longer than the western version. Also in the Japanese edition of the game there is a 1 on 1 duel fighting mode where the first player is the Predator and the second player is an Alien.

I think you might have got the SNES AvP mixed up with the Capcom arcade game there

All versions of SFC/SNES Alien Vs Predator are ****. The US version doesn't play that much better than the Japanese one to be honest apart from the odd change here and there as you mentioned.

Just out of interest, how much did you pay for this turd? I remember paying a tenner for the SFC version pretty much straight after release and feeling the same way that someone who had just swapped Final Soldier for F1 Pilot would have.

I paid a tenner for my US version and wish I had not bothered - I'm sure I can get my money back though.
How can the pal version of this game sell for such silly prices when it's so **** ?
            It really beggars belief!

Surely the arcade version can't be much better unless it is a completely different game?

Ahh.... Just seen some vids of the arcade game and it looks class! No wonder if it was from capcom!

I think many people must think that the snes game is indeed a port of the arcade game and not the pile of steaming **** it really is.

Mentalist collectors probably, as I don't think it had a very large print run.

                  Alien vs

I had the Capcom version on CPS2 and to be honest I did not think much of it.

Yup, pretty hard to find and i regret spending the money i did on mine. It came in a bundle with Captain Commando which i really wanted...

I think mezzanine was right in saying you might have misheard good stuff about this game...
In comparison to the Arcade game, its not even worthy of booting up on any system.

The CPS2 game is leagues ahead and has nothing to do with the SNES game. I thought the CPS2 version was a masterpiece, it was frantic.

Well, all we need to do is look at who made the SFC/SNES version. IGS. Responsible for crap such as The Rocketeer as well as many others.

I *ahem* quite enjoyed The Rocketeer... It was one of the first games i got when i began my retro collecting. However I traded it in at Gamestation for another SNES game...

Looking back at it now via a ROM just makes me wonder what i enjoyed exactly!? I still want to get hold of it again as a reminder thou, but still...
