Urrrgggghhhhh, this thread has made me feel quite upset. I'm so glad I spent all that money getting copies of Vampire Killer, Contra, Rockman Megaworld, SORIII, etc, etc.

Makes me think I should sell my Japanese MD collection now, before it's too late

Surely some intrepid soul will come up with some way to get around the wraparound Japanese MD labels...
Other than either a) making a cut along the label with a craft knife, thus making it permanently cut, or b) removing and affixing a replacement (i.e. non original label) I don't see another solution..

Re the gamebit: It's the same one that opens a SNES/N64.

That's a bit drastic mate! I didn't mean to cause some sort of mass-hysteria.

As I said earlier, I haven't come across a dud Master System cartridge yet, and they can be quite a bit older than Megadrive cartridges, so it may just be some earlier Megadrive cartridges with poor quality electrolytic capacitors.

Not necessarily all of them will fail for a good time yet..

Can you not just lightly hairdry the label as not to warp it and then peel it back and then pritstick it back on?

Well that may be a third option but I haven't tried it.

They are stuck on pretty stickily.

YOu don't have to take the label off or cot it at all. The problem you have is that the Japanese mega Drive games are held together with standard screws but these are under a plastic sticker which you will have to break to get to the screws. The actual cartridge label will just bend back . You don't need to put the two hal;f of the cartridge miles from each other. Just open it up like a cassete or CD case.

I thought id illustrate your point. One of the JAP Games i got recently had already been opened before it arrived.

As mentioned, it seems impossible to open JAP Carts without doing this to them... Poor Whip Rush!

Guys have none of you never removed stickers before???

Heat is your answer as it causes the glue that sticks the sticker to the cartridge to lose it grip and unpeel.

I've used an iron before to do this before, place a towel/tea tower over the item you wish to unstick. Then gently apply the iron to the towel the heat wil pass through the towel into the stick, give it some time and the sticker will start to peel away. It's not fast and you may have to do it a number of time.

Oh and what ever you do never apply the iron directly to the stcker.

The whole heat thing was already mentioned a few posts back.

Yakumo is right though if done well the screw method then just open like a cassette would do fine, and its not as if you would really care as much for the back label.
