I dont think the negs are harsh at all, the fact he provided no protection to the games so they were just rattling round in the box is worth the negs.
If your paying shipping costs that high the least you expect is for them to be adequately packed so they dont get damaged. It's my number one hate for people who sell stuff when they just fling it into a box with next to no protection, when i send stuff i take great effort into protecting the item so it arrives in the same condition, then again maybe im just too considerate?

1. postage
2. customs
3. packing
which one?
for me if its anything other than 3 then you've been harsh
i personally would have opened a claim against him in ebay due to the packing alone, i would have bit the bullet on customs and postage, but the packing is really indefencible
and noobish its not a matter of wanting to get ripped off its just playing within the rules, binding contract is a binding contract and to be honest even though the buyer was sure $50 was enough, he wasnt sure and the seller stated thats what he wanted
everything should have been concluded alot earlier but the buyer said he bid at the last moment so he couldnt check
one to chalk upto experience and i bet he wont do it again
anyway i reckon 90% of eBayers tag on extra for paypal, postage, packing, fuel, bus, taxi, oriental rickshaw feesLast edited by buster_broon; 08-02-2009, 14:19.

and to be honest eBay arnt bringing the capped rates of postage for the protection of teh members of eBay, they are just protecting themself from sellers bending the rules to save a couple of quid on fees, so they can maximise their profits
recently sold over ?500 on eBay and i think my fees were just shy of ?48, which is pretty severe

To your benefit in this case is the new eBay rules. If you neg him he can't neg you back. If you feel you've been shafted, then by all means go ahead and neg him.
I can't honestly see eBay doing anything; in my experience they are next to useless when things go wrong. Your major claim is with regard to him possibly pocketing $30 - the marking as gift is totally irrelevant as technically he abided by the law by marking the items the way he did. I can't see there is any harm in reporting the matter to eBay, however, so why not?

So its combination of 1 and 3 with his attitude really.
If he had been decent about it and apologised and admitted that he spent less on postage (or even better refunded the difference), then I wouldnt have an issue. Instead, he is refusing to fact the facts and provide proof of the cost of postage. I asked twice and he ignored the request both times.
So that along with incredibly bad packaging is somewhat worthy of a negative...
As said before, I felt bad leaving negative feedback and its the first time ive done it in over a year and a half. Im incredibly tolerant, but my buttons were pushed this time.

Handling Fee: Actual packaging materials costs may be charged. A handling fee in addition to actual postage cost may be charged if it is not excessive. Sellers who want to be sure they are in compliance with this policy may charge actual postage costs plus actual packaging materials cost.
So there is a little room for additional charges.

I only have left 1 negative on eBay ever and it was for bad packaging because my item came damaged.
