Chaoticjelly, any chance of building one of these?

Sorry for linking to another forum but after some debate someone has constructed an artist's impression of the perfect Megadrive:

Any chance some bright spark here could turn it into a reality?

            All I can say is

Some simple things are even impossible, like the four different audio jacks...

I think the idea is for a universal MD. Why would Amersicans want a 50hz/60hz switch?

While we're on the topic of Megadrives, I'm probably the last to discover this but did you know that Sonic Megamix has been converted to Mega CD and is available in ISO form? It's quite amazing that we no longer need to emulate this incredible hack!

Because some games refuse to boot in 60hz. The ones they will want to play in particular are the PAL Exclusives like Alien Solider and MegaMan Wily Wars!

I'm sure chaoticjelly could have a crack at it. I'll have a word with him. I doubt it would be cheap though.

If the SNES had a 68000 CPU instead of the weak one it does have, then it would have been an even more amazing machine.

The MegaDrive does suffer from a lack of colours and dodgy sound - but.. still has lots of great games. The SNES also overcame its shortcomings in the best games for the machine.

Don't forget that the SNES needed a DPS & SuperFX chips to do stuff like Mario Kart & StarFox.

Mix the sprite shifting abilities of the MegaDrive with the visual & sound capabilities of the SNES - and you would have a dream machine. Probably just like a NeoGeo.

Haha, some great photoshopping in that thread, I've an idea for a nice looking and functional Megadrive but strangely it would look somewhat different to that one

I think the case design for the original MD has actually stood the test of time really well. It doesn't look dated and is far better looking than the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. And don't even start me on the ugliness of the N64.

And leave the 'poor' MD sound chip alone as well. The MD was plenty capable of generating good music but people were fixated on the sound sample replaying of the SNES. Stuff like Streets Of Rage and Thunderforce IV showed how capable the MD was in the audio department.

Oh la-di-da. And if the Megadrive had System-16's super scaler technology...
