That sinking feeling when you miss something you've sold.

Why oh why did I do it?

4 years ago I sold a fanatstic Neo Geo AES, got a boxed Japanese one with a pretty low serial number, under 25,000 if memory serves.

It was superb, console was flawless, as was the joystick ( no cracked ball ) nice bold gold lettering, EVERYTHING was perfect. Had a immaculate boxed and complete MS3 too, sold that too!

I also sold a perfectly good PC Engine Duo R, looked nearly new, all boxed up, complete, sold loads of games including Dracula X.

Do you wanna know what I did with the money?

Bought a HD TV, an Xbox 360 and a copy of Oblivion.

Was suduced by the screenshots in gamesTM, now I want it all back. Feel like crying!

Just buy another one. I sold all my neogeo homecart stuff recently (still have MVS) and I don't really miss it, that was probably the 2nd or 3rd time too. A minty system and MS3 is easy enough to get hold of

This is why I never sell stuff! Seriously, I never trade in my games and I rarely sell anything unless it's something I really don't like.

Especially when it comes to retro stuff, I mean, when I think about the amount of time and effort I spent tracking some of this stuff down, I'd be a fool to let it go for any price.

I sometimes found that alot of the stuff I had was very good but not like the be-all-and-end-all, I mean Metal Slug 3 for example...it IS a fantastic game but in my head at the time I was thinking "is it better than a game like Oblivion?"

I know it's like comparing champagne to a Ferrari, you simply cannot put them in the same category dispite both being quality video games, they are a million worlds apart.

The thing is, it's all the tracking down of stuff. I bought my MS3 from Ryan at JapanGamesNow, it was quite expensive but it was like nearly new, was probably my best purchase ever but after the inital thrill, it was just a 'run 'n' gun' game.

I do regret it, but now I want a little white PC Engine, despite selling the Duo R which is clearly the better machine, want one for sentimental value.

I dunno, retro collecting is tough, I doubt my ability to hang onto stuff.

My silly moment had to be trading in Power Quest (GBC) when I was much younger to get more GB games with my pocket money.

Although most would argue Power Quest is such a bad fighting game and such a bad RPG too, there was something about it that really charmed me. The box art was epic, something id never seen in my Amiga days. It promised so much, looked so awesome and was an instant winner with me.

I remember trading it in, watching Gamestation check the value of it and feeling regret right there and then. But I knew that if I didnt trade it, there would be no new games...

Id say that feeling that day really messed me up... I find it very hard to sell/trade a game nowadays unless I truly have finished with it. This downfall means I have lots of 'average' stuff I just cant seem to let go of...

Anyways, luckly, I managed to find a nice CIB Power Quest off eBay a while back to replace my silly childhood action. Who knows, it could be the same one I once owned... However Im glad it wasnt my AES or anything big like mentioned above!

EDIT: Thinking about it, there was one more. This time however, it was my sister trading the game in and I was so pissed off.

'Santa' got me and Sister Gameboy Colors and Pokemon Red and Blue, imported from America a good year before it hit the british shores.
It was perfect, just the game id been waiting for. If im completely honest I had been naughty and played the ROM loads on the PC. 'Santa' obviously knew it would be the perfect gift.

Once opened, the child within felt complete. Pokemon Red, Blue, a Link cable and two new Gameboy Colors...

Only to find my sister wanted more 'Mary Kate & Ashley' style games instead... I was left with Pokemon Red alone for a good year until it was finally brought over here. I was so relived the US version hooked up fine to the UK one...

My Jap MD, almost minty, Gunstar Heroes. Got about ?27 on eBay for it, in 2002. All because I had the easy-to-get PAL version as well, and occasionally sold my more desirable games to fund my resin habit. I figured "I know it looks better, physically n' that, but I have the same game already - I don't fuccin' NEED it!!!" But how, howww I miss it.

Same thing happened with my almost minty, complete Jap MD Midnight Resistance. About ?15-?16 on eBay in slightly later 2002. For resin again. A couple of years later, I managed to cheaply accrue an instruction booklet-less, heavily scabby version with dirt all over it, which plays 70% of the time, so I've got it, can play it, but it was never the same. It's not that wondrous, almost pristine example I had. It's like a degraded bitch, all used, like that advert where that bloke keeps seeing that dead child he's run over. I abused a privilege I should've respected, should've savoured.

It took a good few months to get rid of the last 4 more common ones, I took a little of a loss on a couple, but the 'high end' ones were easy to shift, I didn't lose much on them either, actually paid for a second cab. Neogeo is so much better in a cab

I miss it sometimes but I have 95% of the games on MVS (I also did at the time, to think I had most games on both formats). I'm over homecarts now though, never again.

I find most stuff is easy to get over selling - its only a video game after all. I'd cry if I sold some of my shooters or stuff that IS actually hard to find though.

I know that feeling.... I sold my Amiga1200 with HD drive, 4 external disc drives, CD32 and god knows how many games to get money to buy that jap PSX with RidgeRacer at release.....
At the time I was SOOO happy with my PSX with RidgeRacer when most people I knew didn't even know what a playstation was, So I can't say I really regret my decision (at the time it was the best one)
But now I really miss my Amiga with all the extra's....

That was the last time I sold anything.. I will never sell any of my games anymore, the money you get for it is **** and I love to look at my collection once in a while and even start up some classics once in a while...

I'v regretted a lot of sales in my time. I got rid of my Snes for relative peanuts with over 50 mint boxed pal games as a teenager. I sold it and put the money towards a Playstation. At the time it seemed like a good idea but I had such a good collection: UN Squadron, Mario Kart, Zelda, Secret of Mana, Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts.....

All the games were Pal and I kept everything in amazing condition. Luckily I now have loads of snes stuff, and although I have a fair amount of boxed stuff as long as I have thae carts themselves I'm happy. It still hurts to think of what I got rid of though.

Another regret was trading my pal dreamcast and a pile of amazing games for a gamecube. I regreted this one as soon as it happened, and even worse I traded it to the place I worked so not only did I really feel bad about it I had to see my collection sold piece by piece, a lot of it by my own fair hands

Needless to say I'v now got a dreamcast again and I'v managed to buy most of the games I got rid of. Never again.

Selling my Megadrive, Mega CD, 32X to fund a Saturn and games, love the Saturn but at the time it seemed like ages before anything came out worth owning after the initial few games I'd bought.

Still gutted about selling the Mega CD more than anything as I had Snatcher, both Lunar games, The Adventures of Batman & Robin, Fatal Fury and Marko's Magic Football in my collection, those would cost me a fair few quid to replace now.

The only one I really regret selling was my SNES. Loads of games, all perfect condition, just like you. Zelda with all the bits, Secret of Mana (US though), loads of Jap stuff. Flogged the lot for a paltry sum to put towards a Playstation. Sob.

I doubt I'll ever rebuy that SNES stuff but having got rid of it, there's no way I'd sell my Jap Saturn or Dreamcast gear now.

I seem to remember selling my MD for peanuts too, after I got a SNES. I don't regret that one as much, but I had some great memories of that machine. Playing Castle of Illusion for the first time, ordering a Jap copy of Wrestle War (my favourite arcade game at the time) and it arriving on my birthday. Actually, I do regret that just as much. Rats' cocks.

The problem is back in my younger days it was neccesary to sell older machines and games to get new ones. I only had limited funds and my folks couldn't afford to hand over money like that (and even if they did they wouldn't have!).

The Dreamcast incident was just foolish though. Don't get me wrong, I love the gamecube, but for me the Dreamcast is far superior.

*EDIT* Just noticed you mentioned Wrestle War! ^

gutted about selling my MD/Snes/Sfc/N64 stuff many years ago, as i had just bought my first PC and had all the games on emu, so decided to get rid of the collection partly to fund the Pc which was over a grand and top o the range at the time. sold the PC 3 months later

i never rebought it all though, as i still play through emus or Wii, but i did rebuy the N64 stuff as my collection was all pal before, got all ntsc stuff now. and i was never happy with the emulated stuff.

                            Sold and not rebought:
                            Snes/SFC
                            Megadrive
                            Pc Engine
                            Neo Geo CD

                            Sold and Rebought:
                            Playstation
                            N64
                            Dreamcast

When I was 12 or so I sold all my NES collection...baaaaaad move.
Even worse was when I sold to sell a huge part of my SNES games a few year later. Stunt Race FX, Cybernator, R-Type III...I kept some of the games and the console itself and when I later realized that selling isn't the brightest of the ideas I chosen not to sell anything anymore, even bad games I bought for some strange reason.
