What do/did the Japanese think about Western Mario64 clones????!

I mean like Banjo Kazooie (blaaghtch), Rayman 2, Jak & Daxter, Sly Raccoon, and upwards?

    How did they see it?

Well I'm not Japanese but I never really rated any of the games that followed in the footsteps of Mario 64. That game just had some magic, indescribable quality that I've nvere seen replicated in a 3D platformer. I'm not the worlds biggest Mario fan and never really enjoyed any of the 2D games but Mario 64 always blew me away and kept me playing for years.

Rayman 2 is a quality 3D platformer, for me it's the best on that list, no idea how it would have been received in Japan, although Rayman games are still released over there so it must of had some sucess for them to bother, it's interesting how some western games are marketed in Japan, theres a feature on HG101 with the different box art, the Rachet & Clank series has an anime style to it, no idea if they changed the characters in game as well to appeal to a Japanese audiance though.
