N64 compatibility

Strange question I know but..

I appreciate PAL games will not work on a NTSC console. But do they fit in the cartridge slot or are they different shapes?

The cartridge is the same shape. The only difference is the position of the holes of the rear. Just a very cheap region lockout method.

You can actually run pal on an NTSC machine but you need to go via a device like a passport III.

Just had delivered a Jap 64 and was going to place my PAL Paper Mario in it (i'm not sure why!) and it didn't fit!!
