Best way to play original gameboy carts?

I wouldn't mind having another game boy for trips and tetris as its awesome, my brother used to have a chargable battery pack for his, I think the worst thing about it would be having to replace the batteries all the time. I do have an original GB here I picked up for 50p and its missing the battery cover. I guess I could just get one of these packs for that and be done with it.

I've still got a few bare carts from over the years, so I'm wondering whats the 'best' and pretty cheap method of playing these carts nowadays, the SP makes them look terrible as it either plays them in a small window, or you stretch it out so it looks terrible too.

I'm thinking, an original GB (with the screen blur you somehow didn't notice that much when you were a kid), a GB Pocket (I almost bought a mint one a couple weeks back for a tenner but would still have the battery issue). Or one of those fancy GB pocket lights from Japan.

    Whats your opinion?

My girl still has the Hello Kitty GB pocket boxed and minty but I'd look pretty with a pink one in my hands.

Is it the pocket or original then? They must be the same hardware pretty much so I guess the screen scrolling blur is going to be the same, I still think those clear GBP's where you can see all the gubbins look cool. I don't want to be changing the batteries every couple of hours though so I'd have to get some kind of charge pack (presuming they still hold charge)

    Cheers.

Get a gb light they have a bigger screen than the original & the pocket. Battery life isnt too bad either even with the backlight on, depends on how long you intend to be playing, if your going to play at night then gb light is a must.

Hmm, I'll have to look into it, from what I've gathered they aren't the cheapest of things though.

Yeah, deffo the GBPL. I remember years ago having the gold one and it was pure sex.

Then I sold it to my brother who eventually lost it

I'm happy with my GBA SP gen 2, I dont mind the streched look at all and the powerful back light is great

I always fancied one of those GBPLs as even the normal Pockets are great.

Get a SNES and a SUPER GAMEBOY adapter.

Failing that the best way would be on a GBA SP Backlit, You can change from the streched screen to normal by just pressing the L or R buttons.

Pretty much everyone is gonna know that on this board mate but the OP said he didnt like the small size window or stretched. So GBASP isn't for him it seems.

Nice call on the Super gameboy, love that thing, but I think he's mainly worried about portability

I might just dig my old gameboy out of the cupboard and get one of those battery pack things, the GB Pocket is quite sexy though - I could do with a nice one of those.

Don't want to spend too much so the pocket-light will have to wait sadly.

I would suggest trying to get a GB Light, as it's the best in my opinion.

I wouldn't bother with original GB's, as in my experience, it's nearly impossible to find one that doesn't have dead pixels on the LCD screen. I own four original GB's and they all have columns of dead pixels towards the edges of the screens
