PC-Engine Dracula-X is one of the very few games i've never parted with my original copy of. I absolutely love it. I'll admit to currently even having multiple copies of it in case something happens to one! I love the way it plays, the graphics, sound and even the packaging and artwork of the box and manual itself.

I've been playing the saturn one the last few days and it has some features i wish were in the Engine one, additional moves being the biggest. And although good, apart from some slowdown and seeming a lot easier, it just doesn't have that same charm for me personally.

So it's Chi No Rondo for me, but it's probably down to my long history with it, more than if it's actually better than symphony of the night.

Very difficult to compare as they are very different. Symphony for me. Not by much. I actually stick to my original point in thinking the inverse/reverse castle detracts from the overall experience. Probably just me though.

I bought a Duo-R for Rondo..it didn't cloud my judgment though, it is a fabulous game. Very nice atmosphere from the off.

Rondo for me, SOTN is good but I always end up getting lost or stuck at some point in these metroidvania games and then loose interest, Rondo on the other hand is pure action platformer perfection, I love everything about it from the anime graphical style to the soundtrack, the start of the intro voiced in german is quality as well

I love the intro music in Rondo. Its the same in COTM too. So haunting and beautiful. I guess that is quite cliched to say, but it is true.

Rondo for me. I much prefer the linear 'Vanias and Rondo is the cream of the crop IMO.

Sorry to topic hijack, but I figure someone might be able to tell me.

I have SotN on XBLA, but it sounds like they've messed up the sound balance and the music should be louder than is it - it this true? I don't mind picking up the original version for the superior experience.

Yes..I think that is so. I have it on XBLA and it don't seem quite right with the sound balance. I see what you are saying...(its been a while since I played it though)

                Anyone else confirm?

The more I think of it..it is wrong. I remember turning it up to hear the music and the sound effects were stupidly loud, which woke the person above me!

                  Hope that helps

I can confirm in SOTN the voice acting and effects are louder then the music on live.

I love the SOTN Soundtrack so I cranked up the 5.1 and when alucard spoke I sh*t myself!

I love SOTN so much I have 3 copies! US PSX, Xbox live and a copy of the US PSX version for back up! I had the U.K limited edition but sold it.

Rondo sounds good! don't fancy my chances of getting to play it though.

I can't pick between either of them, i love them both equally. I'm such a two timing whore! O_O

But Super Castlevania IV & Next Generation are my favs as i played them when they first came out. I didn't have the money to import Rondo till i was in my 20s

SOTN fo rme, but a little bias, as i have only played Rondo for about an hour or so many tyears ago on a mates pcengine cd.

but it was enough to convinvce me SOTN was better. but not better than SCIV.

i loved the great music and the sprawing (medroid type) castle, you really didn't know if you were near the end, and when you thought you'd finished, it turns upside down....

I previously owned it on Xbox Live and the Japanese version on the PSX. I own the Saturn port and recently downloaded the game on the PS3 via the Store. Oh, and it was included on the PSP.

By the way, I remember I downloaded the Japan demo from Xbox Live which was bigger in filesize and DID include the FMV. What gives?

Chi no Rondo is too different for me to call it better or worse. Its old school while SOTN is metroidvania.
