    Super Famicom love

Doesn't seem to be much Super Famicom chat on the forum so thought to start a thread.
So what's some of your favourite Super Famicom games?

I'll kick things off with the awesome Macross Scrambled Valkyrie which has to be the best Macross game on any system.
The graphics are really, really nice, difficulty curve pitched perfectly, loads of sprites on sreen with very minimal slowdown.
Choose from three ships which each has its own weaponary and all of them can switch betwwen different fighting modes.
    All round top notch shooter

I've always liked the slow-paced Violinist of Hamlin. Love the box-art too.
Its one of them games you have to be in the mood for. Great game.

There are tons of SF threads doing the rounds, but you can never have enough love for this machine!

I have tons of faves, but outside the obvious (Marioworld, Mario Kart), I have a lot of time for Area 88. In fact last week I had my 15 year old nephew staying with us, and I was letting him try out all the old consoles. I put on Area 88 and told him how much I enjoy it. I didn't expect him to be overly impressed with it, but he really thought it was a good game.

It's hard to make a definitive top ten for the machine but I'd go something like the following (not in proper order):

        Marioworld
        Mario Kart
        Street Fighter 2 Turbo
        Pilotwings
        Area 88
        Super Castlevania
        Super Ghouls n Ghosts
        Sim City
        Undercover Cops
        Super Punch Out

will pick it up if I see it, I've owned hundreds and hundreds of SFC games but this one must've slipped me by, I think because its by Enix I thought it was a JAP RPG..

I have completed it a few times. I sold it on on this forum. Never needed a FAQ, its pretty straight-forward. All easily worked out IIRC. Been a few years.

Indeed, so many classics have to face the chop.

However, its easier when you limit yourself solely to Nintendo-published stuff, which is what I'm doing. My definitive top ten would feature a few third-party games for sure, but I want to narrow my collection down to 10 great/important NCL games that encapsulate the spirit of the Super Famicom.

I'm stuck on these 9 games so far and open to suggestions on what No.10 should be. So far I'm thinking Sim City or Super Mario RPG, but I dunno if they have the same awesomeness as the rest.

just out of curiosity do you mind me asking were did you buy the SFC games shrink wrapped?
as far as I know SFC games weren't shrink wrapped when new,
some of the SFC I picked up in Japan were shrink wrapped as they often shrink wrap second hand games out there.

                  Super Mario Kart
                  Super Mario World
                  Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
                  Starfox
                  UN Squadron
                  Super Probotector
                  Link to the Past
                  Secret of Mana
                  Final Fantasy VI
                  Chrono Trigger

I think that would be my list.

Legend of Mystical Ninja aka Goemon comes very very close to being on that list.

There are too many great games that will be missed out.

Super Donkey Kong would go really well with the other titles you have. I'm surprised you don't already have it there. Sure it's more Super Nintendo than Super Famicom, but then again so is Starfox.

If it was my choice top ten NCL published, I would leave out both Starfox and SDK, and put in Panel de Pon and Kirby Bowl. Those are just two of the most magical SFC games out there

The SFC is the best console ever made.

Macross SV is an awesome shooter - the graphics and sound show what the machine can do in the right hands. I'd put it behind Axelay( my favourite shooter) ... but it's definitely in my Top5 shooters for the machine.

All three Parodius games are must-haves. Area88 is excellent. I like Twinbee - because the visuals are soooo bright and happy and the music is amazing.
The machine is home to more good shooters than people give it credit. It's definitely not weak on the genre - but there are quite a few crap shooters for the machine.

The Goemon games are nothing less than amazing. Goemon2 is a joy in every area - a breathtakingly fun game. Konami did great things with the SFC. ... Add Sparkster to the list of stunning Konami games.

Batman Returns is a stunning scrolling fighter. Doesn't get enough respect, but.. I think most gamers will enjoy it. Also, a game that proves what the machine could do if the dev knew how to program properly.

I'm quite a boring person when it comes to my favourite SFC games. F-Zero, Mario Kart, Pilotwings, CastlevaniaIV, ContraIII, MarioWorld, Yoshi's Island, Actraiser etc.... I like the big name games the most. In fact... the early games are generally my favourites. It's rare for a console to get such great games at launch; especially back in those days.

Mickey's Magical Quest and its sequels are must-play titles. Capcom worked their magic, and Alladin is also a really nice experience. I think StreetFighter2Turbo is still fun to play.

Going back to Pilotwings, it's amazing how playable it still is. I still enjoy the visuals, sound, and the variety to the gameplay. It deserves more respect, because it seems like no one still plays it, even though.. it's not archaic. If it came out on the NintendoDS, it would be worth £25.

The SFC is the immortal King of consoles.

I only have two SFC titles that weren't released in PAL/US territories. Those are Ranma 1/2 Chougi Ranbu Hen, which is sh*t, and Mickey & Donald: Magical Adventure 3, which is great.

I'm confused by the thread title... Are we talking solely about SFC exclusive releases, or are we just talking about playing SNES games in Japanese?

I loves me SNES & I dont just have best games on this system but they are actually some of my best games period & for me my list of top titles would be...

Adventures of Batman & Robin - My bestest platformer ever, simply stunning, plays so well has all the charm of the Cartoon & some awesome driving parts too

Super Empire Strikes Back - My best in the series, beginning to be able to use Force powers was great really got the Star Wars vibe going well. the other 2 are must plays as well but for me this will always be the crowning glory, plus ESB is my best movie in the saga too so that probably goes someway to explaining it

Turtles in Time - THE best turtles game period, looked great, played well & is a blast in 2 player

Castlevania IV - Fairly obvious choice really but this blew me away when I first played it...the graphics, the use off Parallax & Mode 7 & then the dancing ghost level simply amazing experience & best CV game ever IMO

Contra III - More of the above really simply loved this game, 2 player heaven IMO

Axelay - This started my love for Shooters, the different stages worked so well together & it had some of the most amazing visuals ever, the opening Lava level always amazes me even to this day.

Those are my top picks but there are SO many more but I'd be here all day listing them if I dont stop there lol

                            My personal Top-3 would be:
                            1. Donkey Kong Country 2 / Super Donkey Kong 2
                            2. Yoshi's Island
                            3. F-Zero

And yes, this is an underrated console for shooters. Macross, Axelay, R-Type III and most af all - Super Aleste are really great games. Even Gradius III isn't that bad as many people make it out to be.

I'd really have to think long and hard about a SNES/SFC top ten, I've got so many favourites! Link to the Past is #1 though for sure...

Fire Emblem? Picross? I'll agree, after those nine it's tricky to decide on a tenth entry.
