sony trinitron 14" RGB retro gaming

    sony trinitron 14" RGB flatscreen

I had heard these were good, but what a surprise! I managed to pick up one of these beauties at my local crime convertors for £22.50 (in great shape, with perfect geometry) and hurried home to give it a go. First up was my rgb jpn n64.....i have never seen such a vibrant, sharp, clear and colourful image via rgb - imho not that far of vga! Looked lovely with the saturn and ps1 too. Anyone using one of these gems for rgb retro gaming?

Yeah the screen isnt the biggest, but image quality more than makes up for it. It also has RGB centring! Downside is a mono speaker, but i'm going to rig up a scart switcher and pc speaker to bypass the tv's speaker for true stereo.

    well pleased!

I've got a 24" trinitron. It isn't a flatscreen though. Looks pretty good though, super scanlines for sure. Good work on finding your Sony in Crime though. I've never really seen anything in there worth pickin up before. Post some pics if you can.

I have one of these, but usually upscale most things using my HD Box Pro. I will be using it for my Jap N64, once I RGB mod it.

My TV is still a silver 21" Sony Trinitron CRT (stereo, flatscreen). Had it for about nine years, just haven't wanted to change it. Tis brill.

My Dad has a really nice widescreen trinitron, I assume it must be about 24-30 inches. I tested my SNES and Megadrive on it a while ago and they looked beautiful. When he upgrades to a HDTV (if he ever does), I'll be stealing the CRT!

I'm still using the same Panasonic CRT TV I bought new in 1991/92? (not just for gaming either...!).

After trying four different TV's at the time I ended up taking the SNES to the telly shop and impressing the staff with SFII.

Tried a Sony back then but they all had this really annoying horizontal line about 1/3rd the way up and really evident on SMW etc...beautiful picture apart from that.

Any recommendations for a late model 21" + CRT telly purely for retro gaming? - one day my battered Panasonic will give up the ghost

Indeed most people either notice the line straight away or it's invisible!
All the Trinitron CRT's have an 'aperture grill', which gives a far brighter image than standard shadowmask TV's, but has the side-effect of the line(s).
I can just about notice it on my one, but only really when the screen is completely white, which is rare.

A mate of mine used to have a Mitsubishi Diamondtron 33" 4:3 TV in the early 90's. It was the dogs bollocks! The thing was HUGE!

I bought this 29 inch Sony Trinitron about 8 years ago for about ?500. The picture quality is amazing and so much better than most of the emperor's new clothes LCDs and plasmas.

The sound quality is also really good and it's got s-video as well as RGB scart.

It also has the distinct advantage of being totally indestructible. I've moved house half a dozen times sonce then and despite being lugged about in the back of a van all those times it still works perfectly.

Ahh the 14" Trinitron That little telly served me well through my gaming golden age, started out life as an Amiga monitor and went through megadrive, snes, PS, Saturn and Dreamcast. After more than 10yrs though it finally gave up the ghost and died on me

Still, they don't make em like that anymore! As you say hte picture was simply amazing, and there is a lot to be said for a smaller screen when playing games - provided you're not more than 4 or 5 feet away that is
