    Saturn Platformer Recommendations

    Morning all,

Well after a fun filled evening reliving the pain in the arse that is Capcom Ghouls & Ghosts collection (How hard is that game????) I'm looking for some recomendations of other good Saturn 2D Platformers.

I've currently got Megaman X3 & the Capcom classics but thats it.
I did have Castlevania X as well but sold that as I sturggled with it & never really got the best from it (And I've got in on XBLA as well)

I'm not interested in 3D platformers like Bug or Clockwork Knight.

So what else should I be getting?

    Thanks

    Neil

Will look Shinobi though...I remember that being brought up in another thread recently so will get that one.

Just bought Astal from Genki for a measly ?7.99 so hoping thats not wasted money

Astal is one of the best 2D plaftformers around , with the most lush 2D graphics I think I've ever seem , the music is stunning too. Its great , even got a cool 2 player mode
Other's to get , would be Shinobi, Bug II (well I loved it) , Clockwork Night II (don't waste your time with the 1st ) , Dracula X , Keio 2 (stunning), Silhouette Mirage and Sonic jam

I really like Iron Man / X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal, tho maybe its more a sidescrolling action game, still worth looking at.

Funny you should mention that I saw it on Genki's site but it's out of stock.
Looks good but cant find any copies on Egay at the moment

Also looking at Super Tempo which is another on Genki's site...looks hugely colourful & quite an oddity.

Going to pick up the Sega Ages Disney Collection as well as I always loved the Megadrive versions.

Silouhette Mirage is deffinitley on the list but seems to have crept up in price again & is a tad too much for me at the mo...same as Keio 2 unfortunately

Anyone got info on Willy Wombat??
Seen it on the Bay for ?6.99 delivered so wondered if it's worth the punt for that money?

                  Darren,

I shall look into the Clockwork Knight games then.
They are pretty cheap so would be rude not to I guess

                  Thanks again chaps.

This is an overhead platformer, but Swagman never got the attention it deserved.

Don't get Tempo, it's very dull! Honestly, you'll fall asleep playing that. SIMS ported the Saturn version which is more of a remake plus a lot extra over the 32X version. Strange really because SIMS port of Stellar Assault to the Saturn is amazing! Much better than the 32X game.

Thanks for the heads up Yakumo.

Thats one struck off the list then...more money for Keio or Silhouette instead

Oh yes, that is a nice game. Pretty expensive though.

OK, yakumo's Japanese 2D playing style Saturn Platform game guide.

Akumajo Dracula X - Very nice game
Capcom Generation 2 - Fantastic collection of Ghouls'n'Ghosts etc.
                              Clockwork Knight - Not bad
Clockwork Knight 2 - Far better than the first and quite a good game.
Doraemon Nobitato Fukkatsu No Hoshi - Complete ****e! AVOID!!!
Earthworm Jim 2 - Some say the SNES is better but still a very good game if you like Jim.
Elevator Action Returns - More action than platform maybe but you MUST buy this!
GEX - Boring american crap. Too dull for me with annoying voiceovers.
Hissatsu! - Very stiff platform action game by Bandai. Based on the japanese samurai TV show. Not a great game.
Ironman / X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal - Some like this but I don't rate it much.
Johnny Bazooka (JPN name) - Avarage at best Euro Platformer.
Keio Yugekitai - Can be a bit tough and long at times but a great platformer with shooting sections!
Kisuishoudensetsu Astal - Probably the fist Saturn platformer and still one of the most beautiful!
Lode Runner - Is this actually a platformer though?
Lode Runner Extra - Same as before but with a few extras.
Magical Hoppers - Far more appealing version of Pandemonium. In 3D but plays like 2D.
Metal Slug - Maybe more action than platform but well worth buying.
Mizubaku Adventure (Liquid / Water Kids) - a very nice cute platformer.
Mr. Bones - A mixed bag but does have platformer sections that are pretty crap.
Rayman - pretty good playable platformer, well worth a try.
                              Rockman 8
Rockman X3 - worst of the lot.
                              Rockman X4
Sega Ages I Love Mickey Mouse & I Love Donald Duck - Ports of the Mega Drive games Castle of Illusion and Quack Shot. Good stuff!
Shin Shinobi Den / Shinobi X / Shinobi Legend - decent but nothing like the great Mega Drive Shinobi and Shinobi 2 / 3 games.
Silhouette Mirage - Great platform shooter if not a little confusing.
Sonic 3D Flickies' Island - I liked it but most seem to think it's crap because "It's not a propper Sonic game".
                              Sonic Jam - It's Sonic 1 2 and 3 plus Sonic & Knuckles. Need I say more?
Spot Goes to Hollywood - Bloody awful controls ruin this game.
Steamgear Mash - More isometric platformer than a real 2D one. Not bad hough.
Super Tempo - Yawn city unfortunately.
Time Commando - Complete crap on the Saturn. Not really a true platformer anyway.
Try Rush Deppy - Pretty cool platformer staring a car! Quite rare though.
Whizz - Typical Euro style isometric platformer. Bloody impossible to tell where you have to go at times.
Willy Wombat - Avarage overhead 3D'ish platformer.

That's about it. There are other platform games but they're either play in 3D or not released in Japan.
