    Best Ps2 3D fighter?

If i had to get just one, what should i get?

    #2
Hmm... Well the standard ones come to mind and are all excellent:

    Soul Calibur II
    Tekken 5
    Virtua Fighter 4: Evo

Thing is though if you have a next gen machine they've all been bettered. VF5, SC4 and soon Tekken 6 so it probably best to play those where possible.

If however your looking for a niche 3D fighter I quite enjoyed Bloody Roar 4 and King of Fighters Maximum Impact Regulation A.

    Hope I made sense!

Not wanting to start a debate, just wanted to say I think that VF4 Evo is better than VF5 just because of it's huge single player campaign thingy. It was genius. Truely remarkable.

Agreed, I played the Quest mode a lot in VF4 Evo, and was extremely disappointed when the same mode was excluded from VF5 on the PS3. It just meant that I didn't play much of the game when there was less to do with very little incentives outside of trying to learn the characters themselves.

Soul Calibur 3 or Tekken 5.

VF4 was a great game, still (probably) is, but not many people really play Virtua Fighter at the best of times, even in the 00s (sad but true). PS2 version was fab, but when they Evo'd it, they smoothed out the graphics, and I could't be bothered, and I don't think anyone else was.

Namco ejaculated the best possible graphics, **evar**, into the aforementioned games, they represent the pinnacle of PAL PS2 "full 3D" polygon gaming. Soul Calibur 3 on PS2 makes both 360/PS3 SC4 look bilious by comparison.

Like I said, get Soul Calibur 3 or Tekken 5, they are dying gestures of a most fabulous machine, they are partners for life.

It's only missing from PS3 VF5 - the 360 version has a full quest mode too!

I think the Tekkens and VF4 Evo are the best. Even Tekken 4, we enjoyed that a lot in VS mode.

I think TTT is the best though, the US-NTSC version. In 2k I didn't, but now I actually think it defeats the mighty SC1 on the DC. TTT just fun, versatile, and no button basher.

Namco should develop a TTT2. Why it isn't there yet, is beyond me.

Funnily enough, Soul Calibur 3 was where the series started to go downhill for me. I adored the original and Soul Calibur 2.

                  I'll go with VF5: Evo.

On a side note, seeing PS2 discussion in the retro section makes my head hurt!

                      VF4 Evo was crackin'!!

Nobody has mentioned KOF: Maximum Impact, I see. Which I thought was pretty fun, if ass handedly hard!

Tekken 5 was an amazing accomplishment on PS2 and Soul Cali 2 is the best in the series but that's a GameCube game due to it having Link as a bonus character!!

VF4 Evo is the closest thing to a bible you can get bar going onto dedicated websites about the game. It explains and teaches you everything there is to know about the system and each character.

I consider VF4 Evo one of the best games ever for this reason

I spend months just in training and tutorials learning what there was to know (and still can't perform 4 throw escapes during a sidestep! >_<)

Again, was really disappointed that VF5 didn't include this type of stuff as it really helps give an understanding to a very deep game.

Yeah the Gamecube version got a playable classic nintendo icon in Link and the PS2 version got Heihachi, who was already playable in every Tekken game ever made, and didnt even have a weapon which is suppose to be one of the defining traits of Soul Calibur's gameplay. Not much comparison really is there?

Xbox got Spawn, and all 3 got Necrid who was designed by Todd McFarlane also.

I would say Tekken 5. Soul Calibur 2 is ace, but for my money the PS2 one is the weakest of the three versions available.

Virtua Fighter 4 Evo is ace, but after playing VF5 I far prefer that.
