My new feature about rare Japanese games

Some of you here might already be acquainted with my blog Eastern Mind, dedicated to Japanese culture and game collecting. I've started a new feature named JAPANoFILES where I will be focusing on rare and relevant Japanese games/game related materials most players don't know of. I had a lot of work gathering information so far, since there is almost no data available online about these titles. My intention was to provide something that could shed some light into the matter.

Two posts have been made so far, please bookmark the blog in case you enjoy them. Thank you in advance.

    - #1 Reintroducing Rimo Cocoron

    - #2 Urban Myths in Yuuyami Doori Tankentai

(NEW!!!) - In search of... SEAMAN

    More to come soon

Great feature mate, I enjoyed the Yuuyami Doori Tankentai cover.

That looks like a game I would enjoy (if understood the language!).

          Good Work!

Yes a good read, bookmarked also.

So are you going to do games for other formats or just playstation stuff?

Thanks for reading, I appreciate it. I'll be covering games from other platforms. The fact that these two were Sony console games is pure coincidence.

Good news then, although saying that there is a lot of rare/very obscure ps1 & 2 stuff out there in japan but mixing it up with other formats will make it more fun for everyone.

About time someone did something like this as for me i love finding weird & obscure games that i missed the first time around.

I wish it was that easy

I focus mostly on the Dreamcast, PSX and PS2. In my experience those are the platforms with the largest number of rare games. I might use something from Mega CD or the Saturn. Snes and NES are, for instance, very well covered in terms of rare games they have to offer - with only a few left. One was Otocky, for the FDS, which I recently covered in HardcoreGaming 101.

Thanks for the interest I hope to keep writing articles that you may find to be of interest

Plenty to choose from for the DC; I love Rhapsody of Zephyr and a game that has always intrigued me is Despiria, though I'm sure you'll be digging up for more obscure titles than those

Did you just say Mega CD?!? Yes ****ing please! Bloggers seem to have such an aversion to this beloved platform that surely there must be more openly gay Asian Millwall fans in this world than blogs on the Japanese Mega CD catalogue. I've read a couple of mini-reviews of Shadowrun but nothing like your eloquent, meticulous analyses of games. I'd love to know what Mega Schwarzschild is all about, among others.

Keep up the very good work... I'm loving it!!

Curiously, when I was writting this article (about Yuuyami) I was reminded of deSPIRIA. Might get into writing about it someday, it's one of my favorite DC rarities.

You're my new internet hero. Not only a fantastic blog, but a really good idea for a regular feature!

There are so many obscure Japanese games which nobody knows about, that documenting them in this manner is a brilliant idea. Please keep up the good work!

It7s a load of crap, that's what it's about basically it's a japanese text heavy space battle simulation played out on a grid. No fun what so ever unless you can understand Japanese.
