    Sonic Megamix

Has anyone tried this rather excellent Sonic rom hack?

Most Sonic fangames and hacks are extremely mediocre, but this one is actually pretty damn impressive indeed. It comes as a 3MB MegaCD image so it's probably a hack of Sonic CD, though the assets seem to be from other Sonic games (and there's a hell of a lot of new assets too). Impressively, they've added in abilities from later games such as the homing jump.

Normally, these hacks play like some mediocre modification of existing stages, but this feels almost like a proper sequel. It's much better than the Sonic games that Sega have been putting out for the past few years.

Anyone tried it? Obviously can't linky to it.

No, but it looks awesome. Gonna google it when I get home and check it out. Does it run on all region mega-CDs?

Yeah, there are 3 versions up for download. E/J/U

And wow... What progress they have made, the last time I played this was when it was still a Megadrive Rom Patch. Played through to the equivalent of Star Light Zone Act 2 last night and unfortunately got stuck behind a wall
Was rather interesting to hear the Moonwalker theme tune playing on this level.

Its a fantastic version of Sonic everyone should play and (correct me if Im wrong) unfortunately abandoned now.
The approach to the bosses is really good too, give a nice 90's/16bit feel to it

My only gripe with it is the music, if they had perfected this it would have been the most impressive Sonic game on the Megadrive.

That looks beautiful, had this project been going for some time before it was closed?

I've just been playing this, and completed the first level, I need a controler to play this as intended but it's just astonishing what they've done.

Does anyone know the music they used on the opening level? I recognise it and believe it's from a previous Sonic game but can't put my finge on which one.

Where did they get that chiptune version of the Sonic CD intro music from, does it actually appear in Sonic CD?

It's no longer being developed? Since when? I knew the team had a few differences, decided to jack it in and then suddenly, out of nowhere announced this:

Now that this has come up, I guess it's time to make it official. Recently, there was a "leak" of some Megamix material. This material contained...

Since then I've seen a few videos uploaded to Youtube such as this:

I must admit though, I haven't been keeping up with developments lately - I'm still playing v3 that I burnt a year or so ago - so maybe I should check out v4 if it's been made available.
