After seeing that cool-looking Streets Of Rage remix/remake drmick posted in the "1994-2005 game that most deserves a remake" thread, I was just wondering which of these remakes were actually worth downloading?
I've looked on YouTube, and there's loads of these variants, different versions of Double Dragon, Streets Of Rage and the like, all with sprites ripped from other games. Some, like the aforementioned SOR remake look great, very well-made with lots of attention to detail, whereas others look a little shonky with repetitive, amateurish backdrops and badly-ripped sprites. I've known about Beats Of Rage for years, but there seems to be millions of them now.
I mean, damn, I've had a PC since 2004, but have only just bought a gamepad for it(!), and all of my retro has been played either on original hardware or compilation packs on PS2/XBox etc. I'm not as restrictive in my attitude about things as I was, and there seems to be lots of interesting homebrew beat 'em ups out there right now, and I am so back in that zone right now, I'm fiending for fighters again.
So, what do you guys recommend?
