I had an old edition of Famitsu which retrospectively had a look at the old DC. I seem to remember PSO being the only game that got any kind of outstanding mark for the console. Sadly, I think it's long been disposed of..

PSO got 37 but other games scored higher, Soul Calibur got a 40 and was only the second game to ever do so I believe. Then behind that you have Virtual On with a 39 and Sonic Adventure's 38. Actually I noted the scores I found for games I own into my Gamepedia, I still need to find ten or so but if anyone's interested:

Also it's actually quite interesting to see that (with the exception of Ikaruga) they don't really rate the shooters and SNK games we all pay high prices for. Bit of a slap in the face for those who bemoaned the state of western gaming really...

          Border Down - 29/40
          Radilgy - 23/40

Weekly Famitsu don't rate shooters, period. Can't think of many that have scored 30/40 or higher.

The fact that Sonic Adventure got 38 is one of the reasons I stopped reading Weekly Famitsu, it's massively overrated IMO, and is not tuned to the majority of western gamers' tastes. Well that and the fact that everyone else started reading it too, and I was no longer l337 for spending £6 on a magazine that I couldn't actually read. I get MCV for free now anyway.

              Kept you waiting, huh?

I know it's not the Dreamcast version but I have Radirgy Precious for PS2 and, it just looks terrible. A horrible port, is the DC the same deal?

The original arcade game was on Naomi so I imagine the DC port is near enough perfect. The cel-shaded look does make the game look like those java games you found on mobile phones though...

Karous and Trigger Heart Exelica did a little better each bagging a 25/40. And Under Defeat bagged a 27/40. I guess it just shows how good Ikaruga is really....

Nope, The Dreamcast versions are all superior when its a direct Naomi port. Plus the PS2's video output never did it any favours.

One thing you've got to remember with the scores is Famitsu DC only existed part way through 2001 as it carried on after Softbanks Dreamcast Magazine closed 1998-2001.

These are regular weekly Famitsu scores (4x Cross Review) "Famitsu DC" used only three reviewers so their scores were out of 30
