Anyone use a retro console as their first gaming port of call these days?

Just interested to hear if anyone on here gets up in the morning, has a little yawn and switches on their Saturn/DC/SNES/NG/PCE/MD etc etc more than any other console for some gaming, without even thinking?

Maybe you only have a retro console you're not yet done with?

for sure, snes and nes. Im totally addicted to super mario at the moment. I also picked up a dingoo a320 and because snes and nes roms are so small i loaded every rom i could find onto for the journey to work, currantly working my way through Chrono Trigger. Not so interested in next gen stuff really.

It depends for me. If I just want a quick 10-30 minute blast on something I'll usually switch on the Saturn. If I want to settle down for a longer session, maybe an hour or so, I'll go with the PS3.

The only exception is probably Outrun on the PS3, now that is seriously addictive and can be great for a quick 10min play.

Saturn for me but I must admit that since buying a 360 last November that has been getting a daily workout as well.

Um, yeah. I don't have a PS3/360 or even a last-gen console unless you count my Xbox that only ever gets used for emulation, and even that's very rarely. My main consoles are a Multi Mega and a SNES but I have a few other retro consoles in storage. I also play on my Wiz a lot.

Interesting. So what's stopped you from getting a Sony or MS console? Funds, unfinished business on your current consoles, or...?

They'd never get a look in to be honest. I love retro games but I'm indifferent towards modern gaming. Even though there are a select few games that do appeal to me on modern systems (shmups and SFIV), I just can't justify forking out money for something that is going to sit there, unused for most of the time.

Also, I'm the sort of person who feels that my life is cluttered when I have too many material possessions (books are the exception to this rule) so I'm very select over what I buy. I have to be sure I'll get a lot of use out of something before I'll consider buying it.

                Good stuff. Thanks.

Wish I had a mate where when I walk into his gaming room it goes all 1989. Seriously, it's cool. Keep on gaming!

I don't tend to buy a lot of modern games despite owning a PS3 and 360. Usually when I do it has to be a game I can sink a good amount of time into over a good period (say 15 hours playthrough) but I often end up completely them in a few days if they are really good. Every other bit of my gaming time goes into the retro gear.

Yep...retro is my first port of call. I have A/V modded Atari 5200 and Colecovision consoles, plus a modded Xbox for Mame etc, these are the systems I turn to for my first gaming fix. PS3 sits in it's box, all neatly packed away and unused for months, 360 Super Elite is in use...but, I tend to play Game Room...guess I'm just stuck in the early 80"s...

I mainly play on the JAMMA cab downstairs.

We've got SFZ2 and MSHvsSF so far. I want Mars Matrix or 1944: The Loop Master next.

Well my no 1 machine is the PS2. Not perhaps quite retro but its old tech and the same generation as the DC! PSP gets hammered also just for SNES and PS1 roms with the odd MD game in there too.

I have a 360, pretty much only to play online Fifa. I have a couple other games but they rarely get played.

before i packed up my consoles to come to canada, the snes was definately my most played. now i'm here, the gba and ds are all i have left - ds gets the most playtime of the two.

Yeah, I agree with you Hoolak, it'd be brilliant to have a mate whos game room was all retro.

I was playing the DC daily long after it 'died' (just picked up Rush Rush Rally last week actually) but I am too addicted to achievements on 360 now for it to still be my main console. It does feel to me like a genuinely different age of gaming. Not really better or worse, just different.
