New SNES hardware mod, switchless control

    'afternoon

Just thought I'd post this, it may already be on here anyway (I'm not that great at keeping up with stuff)

Dunno how many of saw the switchless Saturn mod released by a chap called Seb - http://seb.riot.org/saturnmod/ - absolutely brilliant mod, and can be adapted to control a MD, MCD and 32x with a bit of bodging.

There's now a new SNES one by Ikari_01 - http://nesdev.parodius.com/bbs/viewt...ghlight=#61236 - did one this afternoon, and I can't believe how well it works. It even supports my Kirby game which would refuse to work with any other mod I tried. Tried a PAL game that checks the video mode at startup and it worked fine - this mod can be configured to start the console in 50hz mode when it detects a PAL game, then after 9 seconds (no idea why 9!) it switches to 60hz. You have complete control of video mode via the reset button, although the reset button still resets the console, if you hold it down it cycles through different options for the modchip (without resetting the console).

It's now possible to have a beautiful SFC console, fully modded, region free, without having any switches on the machine :-)

So is this the same as the switchless mod consolepassion offers, but now with optional CIC detection?

CIC detection with this mod is standard, I installed one in a PAL console and another in a SFC, both worked fine with the one tricky game I have (a SFC Kirby 3 which uses the same lockout as Mario RPG which most people want to work). They also worked with my PAL Animaniacs which detects video mode at startup, the mod detected a PAL game, started the console in 50hz mode, waited then automatically switched to 60hz mode

I can't check Andy's page right now as it's blocked from where I am, but his SNES switchless mod was developed quite a while ago so may not have the same features as this new code that has recently been released. His standard SNES modification page still says that his mods do not work with Mario RPG though.

Just had a look at the video on consolepassion and nope, this new mod is completely different and an improvement.

there's no enabling or disabling of the lockout chip, as this mod replaces the lockout chip with a true multiregion one that doesn't ever need disabling, so teh only thing you change with the reset button is the video mode should you ever need to.
