Metal Slug Anthology - best format?

    Hi

I wish I'd never sold my AES with my DIY Metal Slug cart, so now I'm thinking of picking up Metal Slug Anthology, I want to play it on the telly and avoid the PSP version.

Is anyone version better than the other? I have the following hardware options available to me:

    PAL 60GB PS3
    Chipped PS2
    PAL Wii with Homebrew Channel

Or should I be looking at picking up the individual titles?

I quite enjoyed the Wii version but it's a bit of a pain to play with the Wii Remote. Instead of doing the sensible thing and letting you use a classic controller you just use the remote and none of the control options are comfortable enough. Shaking it to throw a grenade seems like a nice idea at first but later on in the game it's enough to give you cramp with all the rapid shaking.

hmmm, found another thread now saying about using the cube controller, this is an option for me, and the wii is hooked up all the time, unlike the ps2 which would need dragging out to have a quick blast (although I've been buying up a few ps2 games recently anyway)

      so Wii is currently winning!

Jpn ps2 is the best version. Pal ps2 had dodgy, laggy controls. Jpn ps2 and a replica neo geo stick = that said the individual releases have extras not in any of the compalations ie combat school.

The Wii version has pretty terrible control options IMO. As Lorf mentions, you can't use the Classic Controller, the various Wiimote configurations are either irritating or broken, and with the Gamecube controller, you have to use the analogue stick rather than the d-pad (just in case you have one of those Hori pads).

I ended up playing Metal Slug purely on SNK Arcade Classics: Volume 1, purely because I could have a two-player game using two Classic controllers!

If you buy the japanese wii version it has classic controller support.

The JPN PSP version is by far the best one out there. But seeing as you don't wanna get that one then I'd go for the JPN PS2 version.
              Kept you waiting, huh?

I hope the Japanese PS2 version dosn't have the in level loading times as the PAL version suffers from!

While I haven't played the Japanese version the PAL version is utter crap it's a bad PSP port with no 60hz, a messed up aspect ratio, no blood and in level loading. Avoid like the plague!

                    Not strictly on topic but....

I noticed the other day on the PS3 shop that a new Metal Slug game is available.

Anyone had tickle on this yet? Any good?

That'll be XX for PSP. It's decent I reckon.

                          ^^This.

Quite frankly it's beyond me how anyone can survive without a modded 'box and a big f*ck-off stick. Looks great via component too.

Have a modded xbox up in the loft, in fact it already has most of the slugs on it already. I just wanted to know what the options were with the current gen of consoles that I have and are hooked up permanently to the telly (to save me dragging stuff around and setting it up, to much hassle for a quick blast )

I'm contemplating the Wii version with a Cube pad I reckon (and never got on with sticks for some odd reason, even when I had an AES?!)

Quick Jp PS2 Metal Slug question; Is the version of 3 included in Anthology the same as the stand-alone version released previously (same quality conversion / options / extras, etc)?
