Price is one thing, I've also had GBA games arrive with the box flat-packed as well.

The copy of Metroid Fusion I bought that was made by Nintondo was the most obvious one.

I've been burnt once on a (apparently) Japanese GBA game - Zelda - Minge (sorry, Minish) Cap. It was a pretty good job but the print quality on the box and cart label gave it away as soon as I actually got it in front of me. That and the box had securing flaps on each end and proper Jpn GBA boxes only have them on one end so you can open them easily.

I absolutley adore Japanese GBA boxes. They're a perfect little format and usually have great design (but that's true of most Jpn game boxes). I've got a few UK and US games (where language is a real barrier) but when I can get them I'll always go for the Jpn version.

Got most of mine when they were on the store shelves and managed to keep the boxes nice and minty. only about 1/20 GBA games I see now have the box, if that. At least a quarter that I find locally are bootlegs, I hate to imagine how many "stock photo" games are on ebay in comparison. I'd suggest you start stockpiling now while they're still on their way out locally. Some of the best games, like Warioware twisted with its strange box (which you'll have to import) and particularly Ninja cop, are probably only going to go up in the future. treasure's Gunstar Super heroes and Astro Boy are still cheap which is fantastic for starting a collection. If you're into RPGs, tracking down the later-releases (Fire emblem 2, Tales of phantasia) might be troublesome in a few years. I can't recommend the JPN games enough. If you think the standard boxes are awesome, try sourcing some of the Famicom classics series boxes, they're amazing

And while the micro is an impeccable piece of kit, the AGS-101 SP is superior if you need the GBC/DMG compatibility. I lucked out and found this one locally (here in Australia ) and it's my go-to handheld.

That's how I got my collection, I realised that handheld games never have the boxes and are far too easily pirated. Forced my hand to buy most of them new at retail and import on release. It cost me more at the time but now I have a godly collection of all the GBA games I feel worth buying that I still play.
I never upgraded from my AGS - 101 Sp to DS or PSP as it's still got the games I want to play and I've not finished to many of them. Combined with the GBA Player for the gamecube it really is the SNES II. Last of the old skool consoles wasnt the Dreamcast.

I probably had around 50 GBA games but sold them all off to by the latest thing. Just got Gunstar Future Heroes and Metroid Zero Mission (courtesy of The Shend) and have already falling back in love with the system.

In fact,I might even commission a feature about the machine, it's like the best 16-bit handheld ever.

I'm after re-discovering the GBA: only concern is whether the carts use batteries or not. Could anyone enlighten me?

No, they use flash memory for saves.

                    I loved Zero Mission ^_^

Did it arrive intact then, Darran? I was sure the way I'd packaged it up would make sure it wouldn't get molested in the post, but posties are heavy handed >_<

Zero Mission was amazing! Zero Suit Samus FTW (sexy cosplay!!)

Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, Minish Cap, SF Alpha 3, Golden Sun, the SNES Mario games.

Jeez, the GBA was brilliant. I've got about 25 cart only games - most of them exceptional entertainment.

I probably play on my Micro more than my DS to be honest!!

I'd like to chip in with the GBA love too

I more than often will play the GBA Micro over the DS, just because of the fantastic games. Wario Ware, Final Fight One, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Game and Watch Gallery, Pinball of the Dead....

*goes off to get gba Micro*
