Cheers for replies lads, in the end I've gone for the CD system, been trying to come up with a list of the stuff I want to play and the majority of it is from 1990-1995 and none of them are fighters or Metal Slug either so the generally cheaper prices of the CD system games seem ideal for what I want it for, may consider MVS later though, I'll see how it goes with this first seeing as it'll be the first Neo-Geo system outside of the NGPC I've owned.

        Prices are great these days

Prices have always Been good but the cd system has also suffered price drops an now is a good time to buy

Recently a turfmasters went for ?18 on eBay and a couple of years ago you wouldn't have got much change from ?50

Cool, I've only seen some BIN's atm for the ?50+ but I can wait until one comes up in a normal auction, just looking for copies of Top Hunter & Viewpoint atm, what's the usual going rate for those with Spines, around ?20 & ?35 ?

viewpoint is £15 (with spine) on genkivideogames, not sure how much it normally costs though.

Cheers mate, don't know why I never checked Genki to begin with as I must buy a couple of things each month from Peter.

I got my CDZ yesterday, gone and bought Viewpoint and Windjammers today, had a few fighting games thrown in with the package, was surprised with how quickly the Samurai Shodown games loaded, especially SS3, don't think I'll bother with them much as I have the PS2 Anthology but the loading times were acceptable, not really any worse than a lot of PS1/Saturn games.

Friend just showed me Dunk Dream yesterday. What a stunning soundtrack in that game. That's one more game that is clearly better on the CD.

I have a front-loader that I picked up (from a real shop) for about 30 quid, boxed complete, a couple of years ago. It was brand new never sold from a toy shop type deal. I was well lucky.

I never had a CD machine from back in the day as I always had a home machine from my school days and a bit later on a 1-slot for my Xenon.

I was amazed at how good they are. If you have no interest in SNK fighting games like me then you are laughing.

RGB is always stunning on them and they are built like tanks.

People forget how bad loading times was for the PlayStation and Saturn as well sometimes.

                    Metal Slug.
                    Puzzle Bubble.
                    Viewpoint.
                    Art of Fighting.
                    Rally Chase.
                    Baseball Stars 2.
                    Blue's Journey / Raguy.
                    Street Hoop / Dunk Dream.
Neo Turf Masters / Big Tournament Golf.
The King of the Monsters 2.
Worth it for them alone for starters.

I think of it now based on the games above as a bit of a Marty killer. At least NGCD games are full screen. Both except CDRs (except the CDZ) so games are 'free' which is tempting for people that don't live in Japan and can't buy the games for pennies.

It wasn't really the X1 drive's fault, it was the time's fault. The PlayStation and Saturn wouldn't have had a chance either if trying to host those big one on one fighting games.

I am looking for a Vectrex at the moment and would be interested in a swap.

I hope this is of some help.

                    Cheers.

Excuse me but PlayStation load times are far longer than Saturn. Even saving to the memory card has you waiting in may PlayStation games were as on the Saturn it's instant. Also the loading times on Saturn Neo Geo conversions is considerably faster than those of the Neo CD. It's best not to post facts unless you are certain of them. The average loading time of a Saturn game is 8 seconds. I know because I've videoed and edited almost a thousand Saturn videos.

Yeah, Saturn is pretty nifty. PlayStation is slowwwwww, but still my favourite console ever.

Most of the Neo Geo conversions for the Saturn were awful (i.e. Metal Slug). My point was that if it tried to do them pixel for pixel then loading times would of been more of an issue too for the Saturn.

On the whole PlayStation games loaded slower than Saturn but I've seen some very slow Saturn loaders too.

To make it clearer, these games load fine for the NGCD/NGCDFL:

                          Metal Slug.
                          Puzzle Bubble.
                          Viewpoint.
                          Art of Fighting.
                          Rally Chase.
                          Baseball Stars 2.
                          Blue's Journey / Raguy.
                          Street Hoop / Dunk Dream.
Neo Turf Masters / Big Tournament Golf.
The King of the Monsters 2.

And there is nothing that comes close to them in their respected genres (apart from Blue's Journey / Raguy and Art of Fighting) for the Saturn ever.

                          Cheers.

Hmmmmm every time I've enquired about something that is 'out of stock' on their website, usually something about ?10, they'll email me back saying they can get one but for ?40-?45.

I'm sure sometimes the prices are there just to lure unsuspecting muppets into paying more.

I thought bar sound being not so good, the Saturn versions of most of SNK games to be pretty much spot on (bar the odd difference here and there) .

And not to get dragged down in a pointless Y is Better than X

All I will say is Saturn SEGA Rally & World series Baseball II is a match and equal to any sports game , X-men COTA is still the best 2D console fighter money can buy, and Souky the best shooter money can buy

There is no equal to Turf masters on the Saturn though, granted

Metal Slug. - Better than the SS version. SS version is very choppy.
Puzzle Bubble. - Better than the sequels available for the SS.
Viewpoint. - No isometric shoot 'em-up to compare it to for the SS. Viewpoint is unique.
Rally Chase. - Nothing like it for the SS at all.
Baseball Stars 2. - Considered the best arcadey Baseball/Rounders game ever.
Street Hoop / Dunk Dream. - Nothing on the SS compares.
Neo Turf Masters / Big Tournament Golf. - As you said.
The King of the Monsters 2. - I love this game.

The SS is the better machine overall of course with Layer Section weeing on Terra Diver, although that game is good.
