After a long time deliberating I finally decided to change the colour of my DC. I have an original PAL release Dreamcast that has a few yellow patches from the ageing process of the plastic. It's no longer the off white it once was. It also sits in my tv stand which is black so it stands out quite a bit.

So far I have sprayed the disc lid, modem and top half of the outer casing. I took it apart and decided to do it in two stages as I didn't want to forget where all the screws and parts went. I masked off the swirl logo and triangular shaped part at the front of the lid and sprayed about 4 or 5 coats to completely cover the white and leave a nice constant black finish.

Overall I'm really pleased with how it has turned out. The only problem I had was a large blob of dye fell onto the lid during the last coat and I had to sand it down and re-apply a few more coats. The result was ok although the texture is slightly different to the rest of the console. All that remains for me to spray is the bottom half of the console and probably the controller ports.

I will post some pics when it's finished. I have also ordered a large can to do my white 360 next as the gloss black shell I bought never quite fitted correctly.

Hey ikobo, which brand of White dye did you get from that site - I may be needing some soon for my PCE :-)

Jeez, I can't remember. The fact I'm pissed as a fart right now isn't helping. I'm thinking something like magix?

Ok, here are a few pics of my Dreamcast, sprayed with black vinyl dye. I took the pictures on my phone so the quality isn't great. The open and power buttons, along with the triangle power light and controller ports are still the original light grey but now look white compared to the black.

I cleaned all the parts with cillit bang before spraying to remove any dust, dirt and grease. I sprayed all the parts separately and masked off the Dreamcast logo and triangle on the lid. The underneath was sprayed too, masking off the large tech info sticker. Any marks you see on the photos are due to ISO noise as the finish is clean and consistent. The only negative point is the lid as my first can was running low and started spitting large blobs which I had to sand down and re-spray which gave it a coarser finish to the rest of the plastic.
