I just don't get the million pound burning thing. There's so many charities out there that could have done so mnay good things with that massive wad of cash, such a waste.

I really can't remember who, but I recall one band taking the (rather sizeable amount of) cash their label gave them to make a music video, and isntead going round giving it to people, buying a homeless guy a tailored suit, and things like that. Seems a lot more creative, and good natured, than just burning it for 'art'.

Even better than that video was Mansun's video to their single "Taxloss" where they took the money that the music label gave them and...

If I remember correctly, Snatcher was one of the few games which did not sell on eBay and I received no offers at all. Although the Kojima link does make the game more interesting to buyers, I think the Mega CD has never been a big draw and I guess I was just unlucky selling at that particular time.
Either way, they've gone to the big Games Master in the sky. I only own around 30 games now I should not have to go to such measures again.

We're dealing with a sub-group of collectors here. Who knows, they may even have stuff like Jimmy Wang Yu's Tiger Boy - a long lost classic, or Chang Yi's The Magic Ring, or even the 'sword in the head scene' from Bruce Lee's Big Boss. Although this stuff is so rare it may genuiely be gone!
So, speaking from another genre, I wouldn't bust up anything I knew was tough to get hold of, not even for cash. It holds a value beyond monetary, for me anyway. Hell, I've got some films that are so rare the only copies circulating are dog-rough 5th generation prints. I've got one called North and South Chivalry which is so bad it's almost unwatchable, but because it's the only one available, there's no choice. If someone got hold of a better copy and just binned it because someone offered them cash to do so ...Obviously a game is a game, and either works or doesn't, but the whole rare thing is very similar. As a collector, you look after each other!

Stuff believed lost, or so rare that even well-contacted normal collectors can't get near. Things like Big Boss 2, which is mega rare, although very recently someone has said that they used to own it, and have a dvd rip of it from the original reels, but they refuse to part with it. Tosser.

I love reading about this kind of stuff, proper underground groups.

Actually this topic ties in with my DHL horror story:
I tried using them to deliver a retro console since I got a cheap deal, but they mixed up my packages (and I want to emphasise it THEM who made the mistake with the 3rd label).
So to correct their mistake it's costing me more than I made on selling the console, not to mention losing the initial postage I'd paid. If I'd simply chucked the machine in the bin I'd have £40 more in my pocket now and no headaches.
Maybe this was fate's way of teaching me a lesson for starting such a crazy topic...Last edited by Sketcz; 04-10-2010, 09:36.

Why didnt you offload the ps1's and saturns to a charity shop?

agh! what a waste of a monitor
I totallly get the point, and hey its cool to destroy stuff, I remember the KLF drama when burning a million pound, crazy, but bit of a statement maybe.
But honestly I have to say id rather an item eventually get to someone who would appreciate it rather that someone with more money than sense who wanted to destroy it.
