    Nes\Famicom Hidden Gems

Got a Famicom & Disk System on the way which should hopefully be here next week, so i'm looking for some recommendations on some of the lesser known titles outside of the usual well known Capcom, Konami, Namco stuff if anyone can help.

e.g I bought Gun-Dec (Vice: Project Doom) the other day after playing it on an emulator, never heard of it before but it's not a bad game, sort of like Ninja Gaiden mixed with Spy Hunter and Operation Wolf.

I will say this over and over again in any NES gem thread that surfaces...

    Mr Gimmick!

Action In New York is a brilliant shooter worth checking out. Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa is a nice platformer which I enjoyed completing on my PSP last summer.

I say completed, what I really mean is bumbled through using save states.

Probably looking at it with extreme rose tinted specs but I remember 'Rad Gravity' being fairly creative for a NES game.

The 4 ganbare goemon games for famicom are pretty good but hard going due to the language barrier.

Mr gimmick i never even knew about, but it looks like a lot of fun.

Can't see there being a huge fan club, but I'm quite fond of Lunar Pool.

Cheers for the suggestions so far fellas, I'll have to give them all a go at some point this week.

@Cauterize, I'm assuming Mr Gimmick! is pretty rare and pricey, can't find one on either ebay or Yahoo JP Auctions.

Don't most if not all Famicom games use Hiragana & Katakana but no Kanji?, those might be quite playable if so.

Yup all the goemons on famicom are kana. Just a lot of text thats all, 2 of them are action based & the other 2 are rpg based.

Try them on an emulator first to see if they are your kind of thing, they are usually pretty cheap to buy if you decide you like them.

8 replies and no mention of Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti! A favourite of mine but might command 15-20 quid or so. Also, the Kunio kun titles are great 2-4 player action. Ike ike nekketsu hockey-bu is great fun, but a disposable income would make the basketball title worth picking up too. If you want to delve into the world of disks, Metroid, Zelda and co. apparently have an extra sound channel, making them the definitive versions.

Sadly, due to it not being released in the US, it's become a big thing over there and everybody wants it. Especially considering how popular the NES is there.

To make it even more awkward, the PAL version only saw release in Scandinavia. The PAL version goes for about £100 unboxed and £500 CIB. Better off with the Japanese one.

To help though, the Japanese version is simply called Gimmick. Drop the Mr from your searches and you might be in luck! Last one I saw was about £30 IIRC.
