There's not nearly enough Megaman love in here.

Megaman 1-3 I'd pick above any other platform game. I find them infinately preferable to anything mario or sonic.

I can't be bothered to think of anything else, except maybe Devil Hunter Yoko on the Megadrive, an ignored classic.

May seem like a wild choice but I feel this is the best Sonic title. It has superb levels, amazing music and all the great control of its MD brother. The reason I like it more is the fact the Chaos Emeralds are hidden in the levels which for me is far better than tacked on bonus levels. Played this so many times.
Great choice, it's a very underrated game and has some great puzzles.

The Jungle level has a great set piece on a waterfall and the hidden emerald is very devious to get to!

Littlebigplanet, far too misunderstood! the controls may seem clunky, but I found you can adjust and forget giving it some serious playtime. The 'campaign/story' very memorable experience.

I found Little Big Planter to be a huge letdown after reading all the glowing reviews. I thought all the nartation and forced humour was very irriatating. I didn't care at all for the gameplay either, all the pissing around menus and having to stick pictures on thing just annoyed me too. I gave it an hour and then flogged it.

Toy Bizarre was Mario Bros with knobs on... but I highly enjoyed it heh

I had a think... and then some more... and I'm going to need to list out and then parse down a bunch of possibilities before I can post a top ten here...!
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Ah, Pac-Land, first arcade game I remember seeing and playing. To me it looked like a cartoon, astonishingly better than the Spectrum games my parents had at home. On a less personal note, it's remarkable how infrequently the influence Pac-Land had on Super Mario Bros is is mentioned in gaming circles...

I had written out 8 with some nice descriptions then I went and had din dins. My Wife goes on the laptop after to check something and she closed my window down!

So where is my list with a short reason why:-
                  1. Jet Set Willy - First platformer I ever played and it kick started my platforming skills

                  2. Super Mario World - YOU ARE A SUPER PLAYER

                  3. New Zeland Story - I cannot resist collecting fruit. Coins, Gems bah! it's all about the fruit! I felt guilty for killing cute animals though.

                  4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - I play it once a year and fall in love every time. Precise controls help make a perfect gaming experience.

                  5. Super Metriod - Another example of gaming perfection. Anyone else feel like they were the only one in the world to discover you can smash the glass tube tunnel then explore further?

                  6. Black Tiger - Epic game in the arcades. Good solid hack and lash mixed with platforming. Got it on the Amiga eventually and got addicted. Tough though!

                  7. Klonoa 1 & 2 - Cheating here by putting 2 games under one but they are both beautiful games with wonderful level design. The dimension of precise jumping off one enemy and grabbing another was fantastic. If anyone has a Wii I beg you to buy the remake of Phantomville after you reach this full stop.

                  8. Yoshi's Island -

                  9. Ghost and Goblins - Loved this in the arcaded when I was little. Couldn't believe my luck when I got the C64 version for Christmas! The wait for it to load was unbearable!

                  10. James Pond 2: Robocod - Loved the themed levels and the music. Not the best platformer but the memories I have of it are some of my favourite.

Almost made it: Turrican - Amiga, Out for lunch (snes), Demons crest SNES.
guilty pleasures: Lion King: SNES, Super Frog: Amiga,

                      Good thread.

                      No particular order.

                      1) SMW SNES = Perfect.
                      2) Flashback SNES = Just loved it at the time.
                      2) Yoshi Island
                      4) Mr Nutz - SNES = Not sure why, just really liked it from start to finish
                      5) Gouls & Ghosts - Megadrive
                      6) Actraiser - Snes
                      7) Castlevania IV
                      8) Contra III SNES
                      9) Gunstar Heroes - Megadrive
                      10) Castle of Illusion - Megadrive - just nice fun gaming.

To my 8 from before I add James Pond 2 also for the memories and MD version of Aladdin which utterly ruled over the Snes edition
