    PAL SNES gaming advice.

Looking to start a pal SNES collection but I am way out of touch of it all.
I have a machine lined up, but before I dive in I need to know a few things.

My main issue is regarding switching. I will be getting a 50-60hz switch to play imports and pal games at full speed.
Are there any pal games that were converted to full speed on release? My main thoughts are Mario Kart, Stunt Race FX and Starwing?

Wondering as DSP and Super FX play seems to be restricted to the specific region you have. Also with the Super FX games by Argonaut, to a certain extent anyway, I wondered if they ran full speed.

Has anyone had any issues with saving or corruption when forcing pal games into 60 hz?

Looking to get a collection of my top games for the machine. Not after the RPGs but Mana and Chrono Trigger would be nice!

    Mario Kart.
    Stunt Race FX.
    Star Fox.
    Super Mario World.
    F-Zero.
    Super Aleste.
    Axelay.
    Un Squadron.
    Secret of Mana.
    Zelda.
    Pilotwings.
    Street Fighter 2 Turbo.
    Turtles.
    Super Tennis.
    Castlevania IV.
    Metroid.

That is pretty much my main list. All goes to plan will end up with around 20 odd titles.

If you're concerned with 60hz, why not just buy a US SNES?

I have always had issues trying to play a pal copy of Sim City on my Super Famicom and US Snes (through converters). Lots of glitching and the suchlike, so ended up getting a US version.

          Used to love Sim City.

I would like a US machine but finding a RGB modded one for a decent price seems a tad difficult.

They're native RGB, as are Super Famicom.. lol

Hell, only the PC Engine comes to mind when I think of things that need an RGB mod - oh and the Nintendo 64.

Nintendo removed RGB from the N64 apparently because it was the least used video type on the SNES. As such it is present on all units regardless of region.

Oh, for some reason I was under the impression they weren't. My old machine was hardwired like my N64.

                That's quite strange indeed!

Wait, you need to mod an NTSC N64 to get it to work here?

You'll find issues with quite a few PAL SNES games when played in 60Hz. If playing games at full screen and full speed is a priority, the only way you can guarantee is to play US/JPN games.

For example, some of the Mario games on PAL All Stars have significant graphical glitching in 60HZ.

                      Starwing PAL glitches @ 60Hz.

Castlevania IV I seem to remember running slightly faster, but it's no big deal.

Mario Kart suffers occasional graphical glitches, but nothing serious and is playable.

Pilotwings will not be happy. You're better off playing this one in 50Hz as there is no performance improvement running it at 60Hz

                      And, a word of caution

The Allstars + World cart glitches @ 60Hz

The original Mario world cart should be fine, however.

Well thanks for all info. I have purchased a US machine. Will post it up when it arrives.

Yeah the majority of PAL Super FX games go a bit glitchy in 60hz.

Yeah, my US SNES has a hardwired RGB Scart cable coming out of it as well...
