    Console LED mods?

Just out of interest folks, what brightness LED's would you recommend replacing the current ones with? Would 3000mcd be the right brightness?

I just have a few systems lying about and wouldn't mind trying out some different colour LED's.

I would go for the lowest available especially if blue or white as these are blindingly bright.
You cannot reduce the brightness of LEDs by lowering the voltage with a resistor for example (It does work to a small degree though).

Some people tend to sand them to roughen the surface to reduce the brightness.

I have had to stick semi transparent tape over some to dim them to suitable levels before.

I had some on a set of speakers I bought for my PC a few years back. They drove me mad because they were so bright.

I keep a lot of blu-tack around for covering LEDs, when I want to watch a film on the projector. Blue light all over the room is not cool!

You can,if you make a potential divider (voltage divider )with them !

All done and they look fantastic. Will get pics posted at some point.

Gamecube #1. Blue LED looks really nice in my opinion.

Gamecube #2. Went for white on this one, which goes perfectly with the black.

SNES. Now fully modded with both switches and a somewhat bright green LED. Looks better up close than it does in pictures.

Only to a degree. They are diodes which without getting too technical are current controlled devices. The only sure way to dim them is using something like PWM. Much too complex for this application but as I said there is usually a degree of dimming by reducing the voltage close to that needed to power it.
