    MVS to AES convertor

I was looking for a MVS to AES convertor to build up a decent Neo Geo library without having to go bankrupt.
A very quick Google search brought me here, and the price was confirmed by other sources.
All sites are keen pointing out that some games won't run on consoles with an AC adaptor output of 12V DC, thus requiring a custom adaptor that will output 5V DC.
On neogeo.com I've found out that the Super MVS Convertor II shouldn't be used without the custom AC adaptor at all.
Also found a video on Youtube showing some scaling issues with this adaptor.

Are these convertors recommended? Are there any other problems and/or compatibility issues I should look for?

The only complaints I've heard about them is that they're sort of unreliable. Why, I have no idea.

Unreliable how? Bad build quality, not doing their job 100% of the time, audio/video problems like the aforementioned scalinging issue?

I've read very hit and miss things too. Though I thought they preferred 12V Neo systems rather than the early US 5V? Would it not be better to go down the conversion route?

I use a Phantom-1 made by www.arcadesolutions.com for all my mvs to aes joy.
Mine is the later blue version, earlier ones are black. You don't need any extra psus or anything.

I'm using it on a Euro Aes (serial no. 059557) output on my psu says 10v-1a, its the dual 110v/240v one. No idea if usa/jap ones are the same switchable one.

Anyway I 100% recommend getting a Phantom-1, it's played everything i've thrown at it even the very late/last mvs releases.

Read that the Phantom-I doesn't run properly a few games, but from what I've read here there's the possibility that the SCII won't too.

Might as well go for one since it's cheaper and I don't plan to have a massive AES/MVS library (not that I don't want to, it's just that money isn't that much : P)

I'd not bother, and either plump for an MVS with supergun or *groan* consolized MVS, or a homecart system and the cheaper carts.

Most of the good stuff on homecart is cheap anyway, SS1,SS2,FFS,KOF98 etc.

              These converters are meh.

I run svc, kof2003, Sam spirits v special no bother. What games have you heard don't run?

What's cheaper? I sold my blue Phantom-1 for a small fortune not so long ago, and it was borked!

At $249, I reckon the other converter is cheaper.

I bought my super mvs converter new from hong kong for $200 including shipping so you should definitely look around. I just use an old mega drive adapter in the aes and I've only had problems with the scaling of sprites that people talk about.

But yeah, for $200-250 you could just buy a consolised one slot.

Right now I'm planning on selling all my aes stuff and I'm rebuilding a mv-1b right now, adding a scart socket, a universal bios, adding stereo, controller ports and everything. Good thing I'll be able to just make do with the 5V.

Phantom-1's dont play newer stuff like MS5 or KOF2003 but for the price $200-$249 I would go for a CMVS any day

What about those bright yellow MVS multicarts? Do they work on an AES via one of these adapters? (That would seal the deal for me)

Those yellow carts aren't full games and run at 30fps iirc..

                          Something dodgy about them anyway.

They are ROMs of full games dumped onto a cart. I had one last year and it was worth its weight in gold. I did a Youtube vid of it running and if you search MVS on my channel there's plenty of examples of games from it running just fine, here's it up and running:

If you have hundreds if not thousands of pounds to spend on the rarer titles then good for you but for everyone else, these do the job just fine.
