Recommend me some tippy top PS1 Shmups :D

If you can find it then I'd probably say the Gatchaman game...I'm still hunting for a copy myself as it just looks soooo cool & being a huge BotP fan then I need it at somepoint in my life.

I didn't like Harmful Park as much as I thought I would either, I think it's a bit overrated.

I totally neglected shmups on the PS1 but I did have a couple of different ones not mentioned:

X2 (otherwise known as Project X 2) - sequel to the Amiga classic by Team 17. Quite tricky and it switched between horizontal and vertical play styles which was it's unique point.

Retro Force - Kind of standard shooter if a little easy. Top down in a 3D perspective, shooting things on the ground with bombs as well as forward firing.

...That was all I had! In my Amiga days I had loads of shmups such as the brilliant Apidya. Anyone remember that?

That's probably because the default difficult for the game is "Easy". If you crank up the difficulty then it really comes into it's own.

Xevious 3DG's pretty decent, it's never normally mentioned in these types of lists but I liked it a lot.

I actually prefer the PS1 Version as you get bonus ship & voice over, the only + to the SS vers is the Garegga demo

R-Type's is a must I love it & is one of the only remaining PS1 shooters I still own

Cotton Original is another one on the must play list but if you have the pleasure of the PC-E original then I guess that might be a bit redundant

I found Gatchaman to be VERY disappointing & basic, the only thing that made me happy was the cover art and breaking the seals on it other that that not so much going for it..

Zanac X Zanac is a must above all else!!
Anyone suggesting NightRaid needs a slapping utter yawn fest

dvdx2 seems to have mentioned most of the top shooters for PS1, however there are few others worth a mention especially if you can find em cheap(ish).....

Toaplan Shooting Battle (All the Tiger Heli games)
Time Bokahan (Wacky Cute'emup)
