    Tool to open SNES carts

    Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direction where I can buy a tool to open the screws on SNES cartridges please?

I've looked in hardware stores and not found anything that'll do the job.

    Cheers

It's called a Gamebit, if you didn't know. As well as eBay there is consolegoods.co.uk. You need the smaller gamebit for carts. If you're opening a lot of consoles etc it might be worthwhile getting a whole set of screwdrivers. Sometimes gamebit screwdrivers can have too short or too wide a shaft, mind!

I got some weird cheap tool from eBay that came with a few screw bits as well as the two gamebits. Works a treat.

Loads of people melt the end of a biro with a lighter, and push that onto the screw. When it hardens, it will act like a screwdriver. Never understood why anyone would go to the hassle though, gamebits are only a couple of quid on ebay.

I have that Rolson one, and it's great for most stuff, but paradoxically I think the shaft of the gamebit bit is too wide and so you cannot physically get it near enough to unscrew.

So is the Rolson not perfect, then? I need a set that can do Megadrive, SNES and any other older consoles and games.

Ive opened both snes and megadrive with it, admittedly with the snes games it is a snug fit but it works fine.

If you have a local Maplin, you can buy the Rolson set in store
