    Retro Gaming on iPhone

I follow the iPhone gaming thread, however I'd like to get a list started of retro games that have been ported to iPhone or iPad. Note I'm talking about ports, not retro style games. What can you recommend? I'm aware that jail broken phones can run emulators and stuff, but I'd like to keep the discussion to official apps only if possible. I know a lot of people don't like playing ports due to the compromises that have to be made for touch screen controls, but I find myself more and more frequently picking up my phone or pad for retro gaming.

I have all the Cave ports (not retro I know) plus Final Fight, R-type and Streets of Rage 2 installed, and have tried a few others, most notably Splatterhouse, the PC Engine and ZX Spectrum apps. What's else is out there?

    Regards

    Dan.

The American Laser Games "classic" Mad Dog McCree is available on the iPhone. Retro of sorts.
I put classic in quotes - but I really liked those old FMV games.

Capcom arcade has quite a few games on it now, and you get a free few coins to play with every day or can buy the games individually to get unlimited credits on them.

There are quite a few sega games on it, most of them have poor controls but the port of Sonic CD is fantastic, Shining force is pretty playable too.

Babylonian Twins is an abandoned Amiga platformer that was never released and the iOS version is really quite good and often available free. There is also Qwak, which I haven't played but it's another Amiga game that's available and has its fans.

On the shmup front, beyond cave games Rayforce/galactic Attack was released recently, as was Darius burst which isn't exactly retro but it's a release of an older game.

Square have released a few of their classics on iOS too, Secret of Mana and Chrono trigger are both available.

Definately grab Sonic CD. It's the benchmark for how retro ports should be handled.

I wouldn't bother with the Mega Drive or SFC games since you may as well play them on an emulator that has support for Bluetooth controllers. Anyway, to add to ones not mentioned so far.

          Roadblaster / Road Avenger
          Cobra Command / Thunderstorm FX
          Pacmania
capcom Arcade (loads of games in that)
          X-Men Arcade by Konami
Digital Pinball Last Gladiator from the Saturn
          VAY from the Mega CD

That's all I have on my phone at the moment but there are any more out there. I know EDF, the arcade shooter by Jaleco was ported along with another classic Jaleco arcade game.

Soul Calibur also looks amazing although is a bit pricey!

Oh yes, So Calibur does look very good. Better than the original arcade but not quite as good as the Dreamcast. The only problem is that even though it runs full speed on a 3Gs, all the HUD and options are in HD only meaning you can't select any options or even play the game because the touch controls are off screen . Bloody stupid that is.

Actually, I've noticed a lot of new games say they are not compatable with the 3Gs when in fact they are. I bet it's part of Apple's new bull **** rules for publishing games in order to make people upgrade their phone.
Darius, RayForce, latest DoDonpachi are a few that say they won't work on a 3Gs yet all work perfecty fine.

Capcom Arcade is ace. Good selection of games they have and you can buy the ones you want e.g. I bought Final Fight ,so I don't have to play with the free play tickets. Also heard good things about Sonic CD. Did not know about Streets Of Rage. I'm all over that, especially for 69p!!
