There's something odd about selling a collection and letting go, feels like your selling a piece of your personal history.
Then again when you sell 1 game and it nets you ?200 (especially when you paid ?29.99 for it on play.com) you then look at your other 800+ games you own, sat there on all the sloping shelves, some played, some loved, some hated and some not even opened.....what have I become?
Several thousands of pounds later you don't care what you became and you have a massive smile on your face looking at what you actually have left to sell, lovely.

      In order of regretness;

      DC
Really miss not being able to play SDA with the official maracas & JSR.

      Amiga
Shouldn't have got rid, used to fiddle with all sorts of gear on the Amiga & upgrade chips are as cheap as potatoes fried in oil.

      PlayStation
Not so much regret here but really do miss being able to fire up and play GT or T3.

Selling my retro collection paid for about 60% of my 911, i'm happier having the car than a load of unplayed videogame stuff.

I only own 4 retro games taromaru, sapphire, silvergun and snatcher (mcd) everything else is current gen only reason they are not sold is they are my rainy day fund one day I'll need the $ and it's nice to know I can sell them

Yeah, my 6 "reto" titles on PlayStation 2 are all pretty valuable (?30 - ?40 each normally). Sort of the reason I want to reaquire the Cave titles again. Sigh.

I've got, and always had, one shelf of games - anything I won't play in the next year at least doesn't make the cut and gets moved on. It does mean that I forget games I've played and loved, but they tend to come back around eventually on youtube, or ebay, or xbox live, or handheld remake.

I can understand collecting though, that's why I love to play 'collect-em-up' games.

I've felt like selling a bunch of games and music over the last year, but what irks me is that they seem to sell for much less than how much you would have to buy them back for. It's sod's law that when you want something in good condition it'll cost you quite a lot, but whenever you want to sell it seems to have dropped in price.

I've sold my AES collection about 3 times now, then regretted it and have accumulated another collection a few years down the line. I currently own more AES games than ever before, and yup, the basts have got to go soon!

My original Neo Geo AES and MVS collection. Since starting again I've got more games than I originally had on AES, but I did have lovely conversions of Blazing Star, Shock Troopers and Metal Slug that I haven't been able to replace yet. Unfortunately there's far to many eprom-tastic 'conversions' floating about on eBay for me to trust any on there. I'm also amazed how much MVS games have shot up in price; what's happened to all those carts Yaton cleared out of China?

I regret selling all my Dreamcast fighting games along with Virtual-ON and the Twin Sticks. I kept all the shmups, but sold the rest which I really wish I hadn't now. I also quite miss my PC Engine. At the time it really had to go, but I've recently had the urge to play some of the awesome shmups on the system.

Anyway, I'd like to hear the opinions of those who have sold off collections and wish they hadn't, and similarly those who did and have no regrets, as i think it will help me make a decision.
No matter how nice that Dreamcast collection is, I would prefer to have the space and a focused collection to play, rather than an overwhelming pile I?ll never get round to playing.

I sold off my entire collection of about 20 consoles along with several hundred games back between 2004 ? 2007 and have never looked back. It was a mixture of things that led to me selling them but the catalyst was being overwhelmed with how much gaming was overtaking my life, yet I was barely playing them. I was spending so much money and time buying, collecting and talking about them, but was only playing them for the odd hour or two a week.

It took some time to realise what made me love games in the first place and what had corrupted me into a collector and importer. Several years later (And a few buy backs of certain consoles before letting them go again) I?m now the owner of an Xbox 360 S, PSone, around 10 games for both consoles and a few nostalgic games that I could never let go.

I don?t regret what I?ve done for a second and fully recommend you sell everything and keep 1 current generation console, along with your favourite retro console so you have both bases covered. You?ll play more games and more of each individual title, yet you?ll relinquish the useless tat and un-played games that is taking up time and space. Do it!

I've got between 20-40 games for each console i've owned, so thats pretty much every major console made from the megadrive onward. But you know what, i don't think it consumes my life. The games take up at best two book shelves and i only own games that i really enjoyed or mean something to me for one reason or another. That doesn't mean they haven't ever been played though.

I don't think i could ever sell them, i look at games like Crackdown which i'll never play again but i keep it because 1) its worth sod all and 2) its a nice memory. I certainly don't think its obsessive and whilst i've got Mega Drive games on my shelf that haven't been used since 1996 i keep them knowing that one day i'll let my kids play them and experience them. Besides they take up one small shelf and would probably net me ?40 if sold which would just disappear on bills or what not. I'd rather have the items than money that disappears.

In fact im expanding my collection slightly, buying games i think should be in them (eg all the Resident Evils for Gamecube) because i like the games and would like little collections like that. They'll never grow to be beyond 20-40 games per console depending on how many great games it has but they'll at least be games i enjoy/ed.

I guess some people here imported games and some of that would be because it was rare or a desired game rather than something they loved owning or playing, i never did that so for me its games from my life. You won't be finding Raident Silvergun on there for example.
