Ya in my eyes The Adventure Island games (on Nintendo consoles), are the only games that are actually like Wonderboy, all other games called Wonderboy or Monster World are nothing like the original.

Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair is my favorite. I won' say it is the best but I really love it it is a great game to zone out to

I do love Super Adventure Island, lots of fun and great sound. Never played any proper Wonder Boy games for more than a few mins.

Did any of the sequels improve on Wonder Boy in Monster Land's platform adventure format?

These have all just come out on PSN (maybe 360 too, not sure).

I used to play Wonder Boy in Monster Land on my Master System, but I remember playing it loads before that on arcade in my local video shop.
There in two three packs on the Xbox360 at 800 MS points, the Alex Kidd, Super Hang On and Revenge of Shinobi pack is a slightly odd choice of games however.

All single release for the PS3 at ?3.69 I think, so a bit more pricey than th 360 release a few of them have been released on Wii Ware recently as well.

As far as I'm aware this is is the first time the English Wonderboy In Monster Land Arcade game has been release outside the arcade release itself and Monster World IV English release was done for the collection. Neither English releases were on the PS2 Monster World Collection, but all the other were.

I can tell from that line you never played Super Adventure Island 2, which is best described as Monster World V.

Wonder Boy in Monster Land - arcade only; consoles cannot come close to the feel and response of an arcade joystick - one of the best arcade games ever made. Some would say a little easy, especially compared to Wonderboy, however the action RPG elements for me make this game stand out. Awesome, awesome game. I never tired of clocking this game.

This Adventure Island stuff is very confusing. I was expecting this PC Engine version of Adventure Island to be a Wonder Boy I clone, but instead it's a clone of Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.

Dynastic Hero is available on WiiWare, which is a good version of Monster World. It's a PC Engine CD-ROM game, so the music is CD audio quality.

I'd pick the arcade version of Monster Land, although the Master System and PC Engine (Bikkuriman World) versions are good - the PC Engine version is about as close as you can get to the arcade version on console at the time.

Monster World IV also came out on WiiWare in English last week I think, and maybe Monster Land as well? I thought Monster Land could be switched to English in the PS2 Sega Ages pack, just not Monster World IV, but maybe I am remembering that wrong.

I didn't really like Adventure Island so I probably don't like the original WB as well.

I like Wonderboy in Monster Land for the arcade, and its music. Start off practically naked but then you'll get gear. Awesome.

Dragons Trap. I never did finish my map of literally ever secret door in that game.
