Decided on a retro fix this evening, busted out the gba & the link cable so i could play Tetra trackers. Spent most of the evening remembering how fantastic this Zelda game actually was, for people not familiar with the game it appeared in 4 swords+ on the gamecube. If you was unfortunate to own the american or european versions then nintendo had a nice f*ck you up their sleeves, due to the typical lazyness you come to expect, they decided instead of having to provide an english voice for Tetra & reworking the running commentary into english they just chopped the entire game out of the 4 swords+ disk.
The game plays like a treasure hunt, on the gba screen you have the main game, the idea been you have to collect as many medals as you can from Tetras pirate crew. You can have 4 players going for it or if you have no friends you can fight against Tingle lol. Before you start theres a minigame you play that nets you items to use during the game, some of the items are useful for screwing the other players over. The lucky stars add a certain amount of medals to the next one you collect. Meanwhile on the top screen theres a map of the arena your in with the next medals rough location marked, you need to explore the areas your in as there are other hidden items that net you points when the time is over. You have until the time limit expires to get as many medals as possible, as you complete the arenas & find secrets you will unlock new maps to play on as well as new characters that do the commentary on the tv, even the boat gets a go at commentating hehe.
Also theres other fun bonus modes like the lucky time roulette where you can pay rupees into the wheel on the gba then on the top screen a tiny wheel spins, if you land on your colour then lucky time starts. Also if you got the bingo card during the starting minigame then at certain points you can stop & play the bingo game while ignoring everything else which if you win gets you a crapload of medals, however you risk the time lost in the process. Theres so many extra things & modes to uncover as you play, the fun bit is Tetras running commentary on the tv as she keeps an eye on everyones progress.
Put more hours into this game with friends than any of the other Zelda games, such a classic especially against 4 human players it gets brutal lol.
There were quite a few good uses for the gba/gc link cable. Controller with a screen connected to a tv isn't something new besides what nintendo & wiiu would have most believe.
Theres a few vids on youtube of how it worked, this vid is of the tv view
And this is what you see in the gba
