How to set up a Sega 32X console to a rgb modded megadrive 2 ?

Hi i recently picked up a 32X x console,

I have a rgb modded megadrive 2 console and modded lead, i think it was one by chaotic jelly,


If i connect the rgb scart lead to the 32 x and then the 32 x cable to the megadrive will it work?

or will i have to use a standard rf lead or non modded scart ?



at the moment i get nothing but sound and a blank picture.

I'm slightly confused because the MegaDrive 2 does actually support RGB as standard. Maybe the mod improves the output quality?

Anyway, it should be completely fine to hook it up as you described, the RGB should work fine. I'd be curious to now more about the mod, and if that is causing the problems.

Do you mean you have a region modded MD to play import games? As Shakey said there is no reason to RGB mod a console as it supports RGB as standard.

If you have a modded console make sure the MD is set to the same region as the 32X unit and make sure the cable that connects the 32X to the MD is plugged into both units and that the RGB lead is in the 32X.

If this the first time you have used this 32X? Have you only just bought it? Has it been sitting somewhere for a few months?

As could be the capacitors inside the 32X need a charge for a few hours 5 - 8 hours. What 32X game are you trying to play on the unit?

Hi it was a modded rgb cable, and a 60 hz region free megadrive 2 with a blue led light,

i bought the 32x recently it came with star wars and doom, i think there must be a fault with the 32 x, the power pack it came with works fine so it must be the system , i will leave it plugged in for a few hours and see it that helps.

Anyone here know how to mod or repair them ?

What does the mod inside the RGB cable do? The RGB cable shouldn't need modding.

Anyway, what region is the 32X console? The 32X will only work if your MegaDrive is set to the same region/Hz rate as the 32X. So for example, if it is a UK 32X, it will only work if the MegaDrive console is set to UK region and 50Hz speed. If your 32X is UK and your console is set to 60Hz, it will not work.

You can get your 32X region modded in order to fix this.

I should imagine the RGB cable is standard but hand made and terms have been mixed up.

Hi again thanks for the reply, i have tried charging it it still comes up with a black flickery screen,

II have noticed that the sega 32 x has a silver serial sticker underneath, and my brothers one does not have this serial number sticker, Are there variations ?


if i wen for the console passion mod would it make it possible to play an imported knuckles chaotix cart? as im having trouble finding a pal copy of the game and its the one i really want to play.

It will do, yeah.

You should check that this is the issue though. Are both the MegaDrive and 32X PAL versions? Does the 32X work when you switch the MegaDrive to Euro region and 50Hz speed? If that works, then you know that the problem is caused by the lack of region mod in the 32X.
